１９８０年代に入り、英国から発生したＮＷＯＢＨＭの大波。当時のロック・シーンにもたらした大革命。そんな中で特に期待されていたバンドがこのプレイング・マンティスなのである。同時期にデビューしたアイアン・メイデンの鋼鉄の処女と並び、衝撃的なデビュー作である。

ハードかつポップ＆メロディアスな今作品は多くの支持を受けたものである。ドラマティックに展開される楽曲の数々は、聴き手をまったく飽きさせない。オリジナルに新たに３曲のボーナス・トラックが収録された今作品は、絶対買いである。ＨＭが聴き手を選ばなかった良き時代の
隠れた名盤中の名盤である。

NWOBHMの名盤。更にチーテッドのシングル盤の残り３曲が追加されていて、十分すぎる内容。このアルバムか３rdを聴いて、このバンドを判断したらいいと思う。

　８１年発表の１st。ＮＷＯＢＨＭの名盤。メンバーは、Tino Troy(g,vo)、Chris Troy(b,vo)、Dave Potts(Dr)、Steve Carroll(g,vo)の４人。当時は、ＩＲＯＮ　ＭＡＩＤＥＮ、ＳＡＸＯＮなどのＮＷＯＢＨＭの中にいたが、その他のＮＷＯＢＨＭのバンドが、湿ったブリティッシュ・ハードロックを基にした疾走感のあるギター・リフを主体としていたが、それプラス美メロ重視のこのバンドはかなり異色の存在で、今の様に評価は高いものではなかったと思う。（僕の周りだけかもしれないけど。）
　また当時発売されたアナログ盤はすぐに廃盤になって、結構探すのに苦労した思い出があります。

　このＣＤはそのアルバムに1の２枚組シングル盤にカップリングされていた101112を加えたお買い得再発盤。

　1はSteve Carrollの声がサザン・ロックっぽい雰囲気を醸し出すポップでキャッチーな曲。2はＫＩＮＫＳのカヴァー。妙に耳に残るメロディの34、デヴュー前からやっている美しい曲の5、アナログ盤ではＢ面１曲目を飾る個人的に大好きな6、超名曲の9。シングルのＢ面の曲とは思えない出来の10、1112は８０年のマーキーでのライヴ。全曲美メロ満載の名盤です！今のTino Troy & Dennis Strattonのコンビのギターも最高だけど、このアルバムのTino Troy & Steve Carrollのコンビもなかなかイイ。
