ポールはこのアルバムの前までは悪人として見られていた。ビートルズを解散に追い込んだ張本人として。「ラム」などすばらしい作品を作っても酷評されていた。しかし、このアルバムは、曲単位で聴いても、アルバム全体の構成で言っても文句のつけようがない作品に仕上がっている。ジョンやジョージが「ポールの曲は訴えるものがない」といっていたらしいが、「万人が楽しめる音楽、メロディこそもっとも大切だ。いいじゃないか、それで。」というポールの信条がにじみ出ている。このアルバムからウイングスの黄金期が始まり、ポールの第２期黄金期が始まった記念すべき一枚である。

「ウイングスパン」等のビデオを見れば分かるのだが、このアルバムはアフリカ・ナイジェリアはラゴスで録音されている。一部の地元ミージシャンを除きポール＆リンダにＤ・レインを加えた３人のみで収録され、先行シングル「愛しのヘレン」に続きリリースされた。（「愛しのヘレン」はキャピトルの強い意向で米盤にはＢ面の３曲目に収録されていたが、ボーナス・トラックとして本ＣＤにも収録）結果、このアルバムは都合３曲の全米トップテン・ヒットを含むポール最高傑作の１枚となった。１ＳＴシングル「ジェツト」（全米７位：ポールの当時の愛犬の名前から名付けたらしい？）、２ＮＤシングル「バンド・オン・ザ・ラン」（全米１位）それに先の「愛しのヘレン」（全米１０位）がそれだ。その他の楽曲にしてもこれまでの４枚のソロアルバムとは違い駄作が見当たらない。Ａ面にはいかにもポールらしいヒット性抜群のナンバーが並び、Ｂ面にも彼の音楽性の高さやセンスの良さが光る佳曲が収められている。そしてグラミー賞などにもノミネートされ『ネオ・ビートルズ・サウンド』として世間を唸らせるに至った。このアルバムを機にポール（とウイングス）は更なる自信を深め、ビートルズ以来２度目の頂点を極める事となった。若い方で最近？ビートルズ・ファンになられた方には、是非お奨めしたい一枚。

どの曲も開き直った後のパワーがみなぎっています。これがポールの本当の実力です。2002のライブでも、2曲取り上げています。10と11はボーナストラックですが、これもまたいい。ビートルズファンが聞いても絶対にいい。
