1973年にNYで結成され翌74年アルバム『地獄からの使者』でメジャー・デビュー。歌舞伎からヒントを得たと言われる奇抜なメイクと派手なショウなど徹底したエンタテインメント性、一方で親しみやすいポップなハード・ロックという音楽性が相まって大成功を収め、70年代を代表する世界最大級の人気ロック・バンドに登りつめる。その後何度かのメンバー・チェンジやメイクを捨てた素顔での活動を経ながらロック・シーンの第一線で活躍し続け、96年には遂にオリジナル・メンバーでメイクアップをした"KISS"として復活!復活後のツアーは世界各地で話題になり大きな成功を収めた。

ベスト盤と聞いて、ただのヒット曲の寄せ集めだと思ったら大間違い。
このアルバムの為に1曲が新たに再録音された他にも、大半の曲がリミックスし直されたため、ファンには、オリジナルとどう違うのか聞き較べてその箇所を探すという楽しみもついた。じつに至れり尽くせりのアルバム。
アルバムが発売された当時、78年はまだリミックスなんて言葉すら全然ポピュラーじゃなかった。そんな時代にリミックス盤を出すなんて。やっぱKISSは一歩先行ってるわ。
一曲目のStrutter'78が再録音。オリジナルよりスローテンポ。コーラスの回数も増えている。ドラム、ベースなしのイントロがさらに曲を盛り上げるHard luck woman。テープの回転が速く声が若々しいFirehous。イントロにエコーがかかっている100,000years。コーラスの回数等いろいろ手を加えられているDetroit rock city。let me goはバスドラの音が全面にetc.よーく聞くとまだまだいろいろとオリジナルと違うところたくさんありますよ。あー今夜も眠れなくなっちゃったw

ファーストからラブガンまでの代表曲を集めたベスト盤です。キッスに若葉マークの方はぜひ、と言いたいところなのですが、一部の曲はオリジナルとは違うミックスや編集が施されています。このアルバム収録ヴァージョンよりもオリジナルヴァージョンのほうが絶対いいと思うよ! 従ってオリジナルアルバムは聴いたけどまだ聴き足りないなんて人にはお薦めです。これ一枚でメイク時代のキッスを済ませようと考えているあなた! それは甘い考えですよ!

初期のノリにのってた時期のベスト。ストラッターとかブラックダイアモンドとかミックスされててかっこいいですよ。初期の名曲を余すとこなくつめこんだ名盤。これを聞いて「KISSかっこいい!!」と思ったら「ALIVE」シリーズを聞いてみてはどうでしょう??KISSはライブになるともっとすごいんです!!
