Following only nine months after Ian's 1975 masterpiece, 'Between the Lines', 'Aftertones' (1975) was something of a coda to that album, again tastefully produced by Brooks Arthur & featuring songs in the same mood. Although none came up to the standard of 'At Seventeen', 'I Would Like to Dance' presents much the same delicacy of expression.

２０代前半で結婚し、主人の勧めで買ったＬＰが、ジャニス・イアンのこのアルバムでした。ＣＤの時代になり、ﾌﾟﾚｰﾔｰもレコードも処分してしまい、二度と聴けないと思っていた　”LOVE　IS　BLIND”がまた聴けるなんて夢のようです。私の青春時代が蘇ります。彼女の歌声は心に沁みるものがあります。主人とは別れてしまいましたけれど、この歌はいつまでも私の心に残っています。

ジャニスの声は最高ですね。懐かしくて、せつなくて　
夜にひとりで聞いていると　おもわず　涙があふれそうになります。
レコードしか持ってなかったので　CDを見つけたときには
本当に飛び上がりました。　これは　絶対おすすめの１枚です。

小学校の頃、「グッバイママ」という坂口良子主演のテレビドラマで
「恋は盲目」が使われて、本当にヒットしていた。
当時レコードを買う余裕のあった洋楽ファンは、
みんな持っていたのじゃないかな？
私は小学校だったから、このアルバムを全曲聴けたのは、
それから数年経って、貸しレコード屋ができた頃でした。
なんせ「恋は盲目」は文句なしに名曲です。
たった２分でよくぞこれだけの展開ができて、
しかもこれだけ劇的に歌えるものだと感心します。
でもサルサのリズムに乗って歌われる「踊りたいのに」も、
本当に軽快な癖に切ない気持ちが歌われていて、絶対お薦めの曲です。
表題曲の「愛の余韻」は、そんな中でかなり地味なできあがりですが、
深く哲学的な内容で、じわっとした感動を味わえると思います。
「バラの少女」も、軽くあっさりと歌われますが、
ジャニスらしい感性に満ちていて、気持ちのいい曲です。
「ブルースの華」は、題名が醸し出す雰囲気の通り、
かなりゴージャスな歌いっぷりで、すっきりとしますが、
これも「過ぎ去った時」を歌う切なさに満ちています。
「疲れ果てた心」では、ストリングスや管楽器が贅沢に使われていて、
まるで広い大自然の中に沈む夕日を見ているような気持ちになります。
最終曲「聖なる歌」は、ゲストを迎えての歌で、
ギター一本のシンプルな伴奏がとても素敵です。
歌詞もやはりとても切ないものです。

ライナーノートにあるとおり、
ジャニスはこのアルバムがあまり好きではないようですが、
このアルバムのお陰で日本での大ヒットがあり、
やはりジャニス史においては抜かせないものです。
今回の再発売で、デジタル・リマスターが施され、
音も大分聞きやすくなっています。
どうしてデジタル・リマスターの表示が大きく日本語でなされていないのか不思議です。

ラヴ・イズ・ブラインド以外にも、踊りたいのに、酔いに身をまかせては、ご機嫌なナンバーです。

聞くほどに、疲れ果てた心、聖なる歌は心にしみ入る事でしょう。
