5.0 out of 5 stars ジャーマンメタルの歴史に残る傑作でしょう, 2003/6/14
新ヴォーカルのアンディ・デリス、新ドラマーのウリ・カッシュを迎えての２作目となる本作。私がハロウィンというグループの存在を知るきっかけになったCDでもあります。

まずいえることはその楽曲の完成度の高さ、そして収録曲順の妙でしょう。１曲目We burnから４曲目（個人的にはEagle fly freeに匹敵する名曲だと思います）のPowerにいたるまでは、疾走するドラムのビート、重厚でありながら流麗なツインギターリフおよびソロ、そしてキャッチーなメロディーラインとジャーマンメタル元祖であるハロウィンのアイデンティティをこれでもかというくらいに味わうことができます。正直、息をするのすら忘れて聞き入ってしまうくらいの、魅力にあふれた曲ぞろいです。

そしてそれらの音の嵐に耳と精神を蹂躙された後に、シンプルなピアノラインから入ってくる屈指の名バラードForever and one、彼らの作曲、パフォーマンスの奥の深さを垣間見させる珠玉の作品でしょう。

そのひとたびの休息が終わるや飛び込んでくる本CD最速のスラッシー（でもメロディアスでもある）メタルBefore the war、まさにヴァイキー節炸裂といった感じの爽快なパワーメタルKings will be kings、そしてローランド屈指の大作The time of the oath・・・。すべての曲に共通しているのが「無駄がなく、綿密に練りこまれたメロディーでありながら、ソウルフルで、スピーカーを通して何かを訴えかけてくるような攻撃性」とでもいいましょうか、そういった魅力。

ジャーマンメタル好きにとってはまさに垂涎のナンバーばかり。購入して損はないかと思います。ジャーマンメタル以外のメタルファンの方にもなんのためらいもなしにお薦めできるCDです。

人気の「POWER」、様式美メタル「KINGS WILL BE KINGS」、疾走チューン「BEFORE THE WAR」、A.デリスらしいバラード「FOREVER AND ONE」など80年代の名盤「守護神伝I＆II」に勝るとも劣らない充実した内容。ドラマーのU.カッシュを含むメンバー全員がソングライターとしての能力を発揮している。捨て曲はいっさい無し。

　私が始めてメタルに触れたのがこのアルバムでした。今聞いても素晴らしい、ジャーマンメタルの教科書のようなアルバムだと思います。１〜６までは、まったく捨て曲がありません。ちょっとコミカルな８なんかが入っているのも、HELLOWEENらしいといえばらしいんでしょう。個人的には、特に６が好きです。

　ボーナストラックの2曲は、アルバムのほかの曲と比べるとかなり浮いているように感じますが、まぁ、そこはボーナストラックですから・・・。一応１２の後に20秒の無音部をはさむという配慮がなされています。


　守護神伝をNo.1にあげるファンの方も多いかと思いますが、個人的な思い入れもあり、私はコチラのアルバムの方が好きです。
