'89年にリリースしたデビュー・アルバム｢IN CONTROL｣でマニアックな人気を得ていたHEAVENS GATEが、'91年にリリースした2ndアルバム。
本作より今はプロデューサーとして知られるサシャ・ピート(G)が参加している。

この頃のジャーマン・メタル・シーンといえば猫も杓子もHELLOWEEN系のメロディック・パワー・メタルだったわけだが、

このバンドの場合スピード・チューンは巧みに取り入れつつもあくまでJUDAS PRIEST直系のヘヴィ・メタルを体現しており、
それがかえって新鮮に感じられた。
作曲センスがずば抜けており、スピード・チューンからパワー・バラード、インストまで巧みに構成されており飽きさせない。
正統派ヘヴィ・メタルとしてここまで質が高い作品は稀有な存在だろう。

トーマス・リトケ(Vo)の歌唱は時たまライヴでの音程の不安定さを想像させる場面はあるものの、パワフルで楽曲の魅力を
最大限に増幅してくれている。
リズムは少々弱いが、2本のGのリード・プレイもツボを押さえている。

このアルバムでHEAVENS GATEはその人気を確固たる物とする。
次のアルバムと日本公演で踏ん張っていればまた未来も違っていただろうに…。

4.0 out of 5 stars ジャーマン界において、最高レベルの作品, 2005/3/10
ﾃﾞﾋﾞｭｰ当時はHELLOWEENのﾌｫﾛﾜｰ的扱いを受けていたが、似ているわけでは無く、どちらかと言うとﾌﾞﾘﾃｨｯｼｭ系正統派HMに近いと思う。
1stやﾐﾆ･ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑの頃は、ちょっとやぼったくB級の香りがﾌﾟﾝﾌﾟﾝしていたが、この2ndで見事に化けた。現在、ANGRA等のﾌﾟﾛﾃﾞｭｰｻｰとして知られるｻｼｬ･ﾋﾟｰﾄ（G）が加入したことが、吉と出たようだ。
このｱﾙﾊﾞﾑでは、なにかと疾走系の110が注目されがちだが、ﾐﾄﾞﾙﾃﾝﾎﾟの曲やﾊﾞﾗｰﾄﾞにもかなりの秀作が揃っている。もちろん捨曲は無く、ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ全体のﾊﾞﾗﾝｽも最高ﾚﾍﾞﾙ。しかも、Voﾄｰﾏｽ･ﾘﾄｹの力量は本物で、歴代のｼﾞｬｰﾏﾝ･ｼｰﾝにおいてもﾄｯﾌﾟｸﾗｽであろう。
ただ、少し音が薄く感じるのも事実。今の音の隙間が無い作り込まれたHMを聴き慣れている方には、物足りなさを感じるかもしれない。ﾘｽﾞﾑ隊にもっとﾌｯｸがあれば、完成度はさらに上がっていただろう。

プロデューサーとしても大活躍のS.ピートの在籍するジャーマンHMバンドの最高傑作。JUDAS PRIESTやHELLOWEENの影響を感じさせるサウンドで、疾走チューンからバラードまで質の高い楽曲が並ぶ。特に「LIVIN' IN HYSTERIA」「GATE OF HEAVEN」はジャーマン・スピード・メタル史上に輝く名曲！本作発表当時はジャーマンメタルの若手有望株としてBLIND GUARDIANと比較されることが多かったが、HEAVENS GATEはその後パッとしなかったなぁ・・。
