バンドの人気を常識外れの高みにまで押し上げたアメリカ人シンガー、D.C.クーパー在籍最後のアルバムにして彼らの最高傑作。
コンセプト・アルバムの体裁はとられているものの、歌詞やコンセプトを抜きにしても単純に音楽として非常にレベルの高い楽曲の取り揃えられた超名盤。
個人的にはロックの歴史に残っても良いほどの作品だと思う。

これ以上無いほどに緻密な音作り、すべての音やメロディが必然性を持ってそこに存在しているその凄さ。
何回聴いても陶然としてしまう…。

いつもこのアルバムのことが頭から離れない、というくらいの傑作。
ライヴで盛り上がる一発芸的チューンはなく全体的に一様な印象だが、アルバム中そこかしこから滴る珠玉のメロディとハーモニーは、全曲を一気に聴かせてしまう魅力に満ちている。D.C.クーパーも彼の歌唱力を余すところなく発揮しており、彼のキャリアの中で最も評価されるアルバムのひとつなのは間違いない。また、全体に漂う陰りを帯びた独特の雰囲気は７０年代のヨーロピアンプログレの名盤と相通ずるものがある。

デヴュー初期の大仰なメロディーと独特のノリのリズム隊の組み合わせは、魅力的だが癖が強すぎた感があったし、「ムービング・ターゲット」もドラマティックでカッコイイが癖が抜けた分だけ没個性な印象があった。それまで個人的にはロイヤルハントの方向性がいまひとつ掴めなかったが、このアルバムで全ての謎が氷解（笑）。まさに今までの活動がこのアルバムに集約されたかのような、彼らの最高傑作。

ところで、米盤・英版・独盤などいろいろあるようですが、ボーナストラックとして収められている楽曲には聴き逃すのが惜しい名曲もありますね。日本盤の再発でそれらをまとめて収録してもらえないでしょうか…

5.0 out of 5 stars 宗教、神、人間がテーマのコンセプト・アルバム, 2008/6/12
ROYAL HUNTを語るうえで欠かせないのはこのアルバム。
曲単体の即効性だと「MOVING TARGET」の方が勝る所もあるが、
１枚のアルバム完成度でいうとやはりこれが１番。
アンドレ・アンダーソンが創り出す音世界にDCクーパーも熱唱で見事に応えている。
