1980年代に誕生したハロウィンもそんなグループのひとつである。前期のハロウィンを率いたのは、メロディック・スピード・メタルの申し子、カイ・ハンセン。彼のギターは、速弾きにもかかわらずひとつひとつの音がクリアなのが魅力だ。このアルバムは、「ウォールズ・オブ・ジェリコ」にデビューアルバムの曲などを加えた全14曲の大作。当然のごとく、豪快なまでに疾走しているハード・チューンのオンパレードだ。ハードなだけではなく、ツインギターが奏でるハーモニーが曲に厚みをもたせ、ドラマティックに盛り上げている。このころはまだカイ・ハンセンがギターを弾きまくりながらヴォーカルまで担当しているのだが、すごいというか無謀というか。成長過程にあるグループの勢いをしかと感じることができる作品だ。（富良仁 枝実）
