スワンプロックといわれるジャンルなのですが、全く商業的なこととは縁のないようなマークベノさんは、しかしながらプロの皆さんからは圧倒的に支持されています。聴いていてほっとするようなハートフルな音楽であります。
ボビーチャールズやザ・バンドが好きな方は聴いてみる価値はあると思います。たくさん売れるようなＣＤではないですが、こんなのを一枚持っていると何か心豊かな気になるのは私だけでしょうか。

マーク・べノ２ND作。　1曲目、ボビーウーマックの生ギターに絡んでくるのは、ジェシ・エド・デイヴィスのスライド・ギターでそこにマークの甘い（ゆるい）ヴォーカルがのる。これ1曲でアメリカ中西部から南部ロックに興味のある人はアルバムの最後まで聞く決心ができてしまうと思います。4曲めのスピーク・ユア・マインド　絶品です。このアルバムほどジャケの写真と中身の音がぴったりと一致している作品なんてそう無いのとちがいますやろか。是非一聴を

スワンプ・ロックの名盤というだけでなく、何十年たっても古びない、懐かしさと新しさを備えた、本当になごめる作品だと思います。

ネットでホームページを検索すると、現在もわりとコンスタントに、手作りっぽい感じで作品リリースはしてますが、ふつうのブルースふうのアルバムが多く、この頃の魅力や輝きはもう望めないだろうなと思います。でもいいんです。こんないい作品を残してくれてるんですから。

２００５年の来日公演では、ちょっと太って、おじちゃんになってました。名曲「フラニー」を、今の奥方の名前に変えて歌うなど、情けないんだか、ほほえましいんだか。でもいいライヴでした。たぶん無理だろうけど、また来日してほしいなあ。

『ロスト・イン・オースティン』も、必聴アルバムです。
