へヴィ・メタルと一言で言っても現在では様々なスタイルがあり、その言葉の意味するところを簡単には言葉で説明することが出来なくなってきています。正直言って80年代を通過してきた身としてはスリップノットやリンプビズキットやスタティック-Ｘをへヴィ・メタルだと言われても首肯しかねるわけです。

”へヴィ・メタルとは何か？”

怒りに身を任せ、こぶしを振り上げ、ヘッドバンギングしまくるのもへヴィ・メタルのスタイルの一つだと言うなら、聴いてるだけで目頭が熱くなり、精神が浄化されるようなへヴィ・メタルがあってもいい。

私にとって本作は、道に迷ったときの道標のような作品であります。

久しぶりに1を聴いて涙を流した私は年をとったことを実感した次第であります。

聴いた後に敬礼したくなるメタル・アートの最高峰。

今は亡き、ACCEPT。ここ日本では絶大な支持をうけた伝説のバンドといってもいいグループである。収録曲の「METALHEART」は未だ語り継がれる名曲で、あの「エリーゼのために」の名フレーズを違和感なく曲に盛り込むあたりは言葉に出来ないくらい素晴らしい。リリースから１７年たった今でも古くささは微塵も感じられない。良いものは何時までも色あせることなく輝き続けるのである。

「エリーゼのために」をフィーチャーしたギター・ソロを含む「Metal Heart」を筆頭に男気溢れるヘヴィ・メタルが展開されています。
　それ以前にリリースされた音源での「Fast As A Shark」や「Breaker」の疾走を期待した人は当初肩すかしを食らったようにも感じましたが、速度の速い曲はありますし、楽曲がそれまでに増して質が高くなっています。
　また、速弾きに頼らない歌うようなギターのメロディー、地響きコーラスなど、まさに「ヘヴィ・メタル」そのものです。
　もの凄い音圧ではありますが、しっかりとしたメロディーですし、一緒に歌いたくなるサビの作り方、ハッとさせる展開などヘヴィ・メタルの醍醐味が凝縮された名盤であります。
