ジャケットのセピア色の麦畑も美しいアイレス・イン・ギャザの6th(86年作)。

チェリーレッドということで、ネオアコ文脈で紹介されることも多い彼らだが、初期はチープな電子音が印象的なミニマル・ミュージックをやっていたし、後期もポップになったとはいえ、フォーク／トラッド色もかなり強い音楽をやっている。おそらく本人たちは、自分たちのやりたいことが見えていて、それらをただ愚直なまでに実践していったそんなバンドなんだと思う。それは聴き手に阿る感じが全くないからだ。そういった意味では、やはりニューウェイヴなバンドではある。

この6thは、よりメロディに起伏が出てきて、外に向かって開かれている感じがするのは確かだ。それは、ボーカルのマーティンの歌声が、とてものびのびしていて、開放的な気分が表れている感じからも分かる。初期は歌にどこかトゲトゲしいところがあったが、そういう内向的な感じはすっかりなくなってしまっている。聴いている者の心が洗われるような、清々しさを持ったアルバムだと思うし、非常にチェリーレッド的な繊細さを持ちつつ、優しいアルバムだと思う。

タイトルからしてすでに泣かせてくれる。

『sweet life longer』、『your rich sky』……、あぁ、なんて素敵なタイトルなんだろう。
なんて、優しいんだろう。

『your rich sky』、つまりは、「空」という計量不能の価値観に価値を見出すと言う行為。

本当のセレブってつまりはこういうことなんだよね。

なんで、こういう音楽が現代では激減してしまったんだろう？
非常に残念でならない。
ヌルくなんかなによ。本当に、この音楽を聴くと優しくなれる。


いっつもこのアルバムを聴くたびに、大切な気持ちを思い出します。
自然の匂い、キラキラとした瞳、本当に大切なものってそういいうものじゃん？
