このアルバムは、イーグルと並んでアメリカン・ロックの双璧をなすといわれたバンドの極めつけの名盤。ブルー・グラスからタイトなロックまで、選曲はバラエティに富んでいる。女性なら、ブルー・アイド・ソウルと呼ばれたマイケル・マクドナルドのボーカルにしびれるだろう。パット・シモンズのアメリカっぽさもカッコイイ。初期のリーダーだったトミー・ジョンストンも飛び入り参加している。当時画期的だったダブル・ドラムスも豪華。

バンドが再編を果たした今となっては"Farewell Tour"としての意義は薄れたものの，バンドが煮詰まりつつある瞬間を捉えた記録性の高いライブ･アルバムである。収録曲はMichael McDonald時代のものを中心としたものであり，昔日の豪快なDoobiesの姿を求める向きには，最後の2曲でTom Johnstonが客演する瞬間まで待つ必要がある。もちろんPat Simmonsがヴォーカルを取る曲ではそれなりの昔のDoobiesらしさもあるにはあるが，やはり豪快なロックをやるにはバンドが洗練され過ぎている嫌いが強い。フェアウエル･ツアーなので，当然ヒット･パレード的な選曲は求められるものであるとしても，バンドの個性が前後期で大きく変化した中で，昔のレパートリーを突っ込むことには無理があるのは当然であった。バンドとしてのまとまりはあるし，演奏も手堅いのでそれなりに楽しめるが，何とも言いがたい違和感の存在は否定できないところである。長らくの間廃盤となっているのはそのあたりが原因か。ファンとしては微妙であるが，今やある意味稀少性の方が高くなってしまったアルバム。

タイトルとは裏腹にドゥービーBros.はオリジナルメンバーであったトム・ジョンストン(vo、ｇ)がミュージックシーンへ本格的に復帰したこともあり、'87年の再結成ツアーで復活し、'89年には再結成後初のアルバムもリリースすることになります。本作はドゥービーBros.が行った'83年の解散ツアーのドキュメンタリーとして編集された一作('83年作)。
流れとしてマイケル・マクドナルド(vo、key)時代のラインアップで、所謂、後期ドゥービーBros.の色合いが色濃い部分は否めませんが、それでも初期の作品も幾つか入れられており、最後の2曲ではT.ジョンストンがバンドに合流して[16]、[17]をメインで歌うなど、それなりにファンサービス的な要素も入れ込まれています。
単なるベスト盤として見る事もできますが、少なからず解散時までオフィシャルにはライブ盤は無かった(と思います)ので、解散前ドゥービーBros.の最初にして最後のライブ盤という位置づけでもいいかなぁと思います。
最近は紙ジャケ仕様などでドゥービーBros.の一連の作品がリリースされているようですが、本作は何故か蚊帳の外ですね。版権がややこしくなっているのか知らん?
