恥ずかしいけど、クランベリーズと言うバンドもボーカルのドロレス・オリオーダンも全く知らなかった。
たまたま、2007年6月5日の朝日新聞夕刊に「クランベリーズのドロレスが帰ってきた」と言う結構大きな
扱いの記事を見て、そこに「アイルランドのロックバンド」と言う文言を見て、大変に興味を持った。

今、アイリッシュ音楽をやっているミュージシャンでロックを志向（試行かな）している、と言うケースが
比較的身近にあるもんだから、じゃぁ、そもそもアイリッシュの人達がロックをやったらどうなんだろう、
と言う興味から、聴いてみることにした。
だから、どのＣＤでも良かったんだけど、どうも初期の方がメローよりビート、ロック、と言う感じのよう
だからこの一枚を選んでみました。

うん、おもしろい。
これを単純にロックと言うのは違うかな。
非常に民俗的な色合いを感じました。時に、東洋的なと言っても良いようなメロディも有り、全体に挑戦的
な所のない、かと言って軽いわけではないなぁ。とても、心地よい不思議な音楽。ロックと言えばロックだ
なぁ。
ボーカルのドロレスは曲によってずいぶん感じが違う。個人的な好みでは、余り裏声にならない方が好きだ
な。少しフェアグランド・アトラクションを彷彿とさせる曲作りであり、ボーカルですね。
飽きないな、この感じは。しばらく、何枚か聴いてみようと思います。

1996年発表のこの作品は、現在のクランベリーズのような優しく穏やかなものではなく、ギターもドラムも全開的な歌が印象的。あとは、ドロレスの感情が凝縮された歌詞が特徴。
とはいっても、現在の作品に近い優しく歌い上げる歌も多いので、最近ファンになった人も安心して聞けると思う。アメリカやオーストラリアでは、かなりのヘビーローテーションになっていたHOLLYWOOD、SALUVATION、胸が張り裂けそうになるドロレスの叫びをハードな音でのせたI JUST SHOT JOHN LENON。幻想的な雰囲気のあるWILL YOU REMEMBER?
ベスト版で物足りなく感じた方は是非購入を。

近所のCDショップでこれ見かけけどケースが黄色いのには驚いた。
欲しくなってしまいました。
