　さすがにマスターテープからリマスタリングしたＣＤとあって、圧倒的な高音質。収録曲もアレンジメントされていない名曲目白押し。

　難点なのは、輸入盤の宿命とも言える「レーベル面の傷」だ。録音方法もエンファシスやＨＤＣＤ、ＳＢＭなどの特殊録音をしていないので、原音を忠実に楽しむことが出来る。ただ、信号面の全てを使用する録音方法を採用すれば、更に良い音質が実現出来るはずだ。

　残念ながら、このアルバムの信号面を見ると、録音に使用された部分が信号面の約半分。残った部分が空白となっているのだ。３０周年を記念したアルバムであるのなら、是非とも信号面の全てを録音に用いてもらいたかったというのが本音である。

　だからと言って、音質に問題があるわけではないが、記録された状態を考えると、ラジカセやミニコンポ程度の簡易再生機では、このＣＤに秘められた奥深い音の雰囲気は味わえないと思われる。出来ればフルコンポで楽しみたい逸品だ。

　このアルバムには、A Song For You　、Top of the World　、I Won't Last A Day
Without You　、Goodbye To Love　等々の素晴らしい歌が詰め込まれていますが、
とりわけ私がお薦めしたいのは、A Song For You　。
　切ないメロディーに乗せてカレンが聴衆である私達に語りかける言葉は、
「私の言いたいことが言葉にならないときは、メロディーに耳を傾けてください。
そこに私の愛が見つかるはずです。私は時空を越えたところであなたを愛しています。
そして私の命が尽きたときには、私達が一緒にいて、私があなたのためにこの歌を
歌っていたことを思い出してください。」というもの。
　歌に込めたカレンの思いが伝わってきます。私には、世界一美しい遺言のように
思われます。この歌を聞くたび、若くして亡くなってしまったけれども素晴らしい歌の
数々を今の私達のために遺してくれたカレンに対する感謝の念を禁じえません。
　これは、時空を越えてカレンの心を最も近くで感じることができる歌だと思います。

「武道館での彼らのコンサートは応募ハガキが４０万枚・・」、それはすごいニュースだけど行きたいとは思わない、
「A Song For You」は作者のレオンの方が絶対いい、「涙の乗車券」？、まあアレンジは面白いと思うけど・・、
カレンの歌？、そりゃ天才だとは思うぜ・・、ドラムも上手いし、
リチャードのウーリッツアー早弾き？、確かにすごいよ・・、でもギターソロないじゃん、ドラムやベースソロも・・・、
そんなロック命小僧はずっとカーペンターズのアルバムを買ったことはありませんでした。
そんな見栄っ張りも、年をとるにつけ自分に正直に生きるようになり、このアルバムを買ったわけです。

第一印象　：　”・・これって、コンセプトアルバム・・？”
コンセプトと言えば普通は、歌詞のメッセージとか似た曲調で統一性を持たせるのが常套手段。
このアルバムを定義するいい言葉が見つからないけれど、
とにかくヒットシングルつなぎでないことは確か。
すべてを聞き終わったときに、カーペンターズが「バンド」として感じられる。

リマスターしてもヒスノイズが取れない曲があっても、音楽のレベルに比べれば小さいもの。
脱帽。・・カレンの「A Song For You」にも・・。
