ルネッサンスのデビュー作。
燃ゆる灰に匹敵する傑作アルバム。
冒頭からクラシカルなピアノが聞こえて
くると、もうルネッサンスワールドへ。
個々の曲のクオリティがとても高く、絶対に
買って損はない。

この一枚はまるで夢うつつの状態のままに過ぎ去ってしまう。眠っているのか覚醒しているの
かわからない紙一重の瞬間が永続していくようにいつも感じる。

ルネッサンスはジャンル分けで括ればプログレですが、この一枚の美しさはプログレファンの
みならず、すべての音楽ファンが共鳴できると思います。

ただ...本当に他に表現する言葉が見つからない。。ただ美しい、なんて美しいんだ「Sounds
Of The Sea」は。。

７２年発表３作目。オリジナル・ルネッサンスの解散後、マイケル・ダンフォードが集めたメンバー、アニー・ハズラム(vo)、ジョン・ダウト(k)、ジョン・キャンプ(b)、テレンス・サリヴァン(Dr)、ロブ・ヘンドリー(g) で製作された作品。曲はオリジナル・ルネッサンスのジム・マッカートニーの作品が２曲、マイケル・ダンフォードの曲が４曲となっており、彼女らの処女作とは言ってもかなり過渡期的な内容と言える。サウンド的にもメンバーが完全に変わっているのにも関わらず、ほぼ前作の延長線上であり、かなり後継者を意識したした内容だと思う。次作ではかなりポップな部分が強調されるだけに貴重な作品とも言えるだろう。ピアノが印象的なクラシカルな１．でのアニーのスキャットは幻想的な美しさに満ちあふれ、２．も前作の延長線を強く意識させるクラシック/フォーク色の濃厚な佳曲。ドラマティックな展開は既に完成の域。
クラシカルなピアノを強調したアレンジが素晴らしく、とにかく美しい逸品。ルネッサンスの作品はどれも甲乙が付けがたいが、この作品はちょっとだけ毛色が違うので何枚か聞いた人には特にお薦め。もちろん最初の一枚でも良いと思う。
ちなみに元カーヴド・エアのフランシス・モンクマンがシンセサイザーで一曲参加している。
