ツイン・キーボードが売りのGREENSLADEの二作目は優美なポップ・テイストと前作以上に多彩なキーボード・サウンドが楽しめる好作品です。
ファンタジックなバラードからスリリングなインストゥルメンタルまでをメロトロン、ピアノ、オルガンに加えてムーグ・シンセもフィーチュアしてまるで午後のまどろみのような暖かみあるタッチで描いてゆきます。

またデイヴ・ロウソンの頼りなげな風情のヴォーカルもこのサウンドにはぴったりです。
キーボードを主にしながらもTHE NICE、EL&Pのヘヴィなサウンドとは異なる匂いたつように繊細な幻想美があり、プログレ・ファンのみならずこの時代のポップスのファンにも十分受けそうな内容です。

　英国出身のツイン・キーボードを要するプログレ・バンドの’７４年発表の２nd。
　まず、１曲目に驚かされる。英国的な上品さとメルヘンチックなムードを持ったバラード調のポップなこの曲は、プログレ・ファンに関わらず耳を引きつられるのではないか。コーラスも美しい。
　その次以降は、いかにもプログレらしいテクニカルな演奏が展開される。看板のツイン・キーボードが、幅の広がった楽曲の、更に磨きがかかったメロディを描きながら、自由奔放に駆け回る。
　本作でもサウンドの軸となっているのは、ピアノ、オルガン、メロトロンであるが、そのメロトロンによるフルートの音色がフィーチャーされており、よりシンフォニックな、より叙情的な雰囲気を一層強めている。
　また、元KING CRIMSONのAndrew McCullochのドラム・プレイも大きな存在感を示しており、演奏全体を引き締めているのに貢献している。迫力のあるドラム・ソロも聴き応え十分だ。
　前作ではヴォーカルのやや強かった癖も本作では幾分改善され、表現力も増し、聴きやすくなっている。
　ストレートにプログレ、となると前作の方に軍配が上がるかもしれないが、音楽としての楽しさ、親しみやすさという点では、本作の方が上であろう。
　自分達の個性をよく把握し、また一段と上に昇華させたと言えよう見事な内容だ。

テクニック、メロディー、アレンジ、すべてにおいて完成されてる。
ジャケットも逸品。音質も良い。買いましょう。
