１曲目のハッピートゥギャザから最後のギフトまで、突っ走ります。特にラスイチの悪意という名の街（town called marice）のリズム感は、思わず踊りだしたくなるほど（映画リトルダンサーの挿入歌でも使われました）素晴らしい。元気ないときよく聴きます。必ず元気でます。おためしあれ。

The Jamラスト・アルバム。「やり切る」ってこういう事だ。だからこそ、扉の向こうのnext stageには、素晴らしい世界が待っているんだ。Paul Wellerにとって、The Style Councilへ向かうために、このアルバムは必要だった。彼は強烈な決意と行動力でThe Jam解散までを「やり切った」。これも必然だったのだ。傑作。

パンクの旋風が吹き荒れる１９７７年のイギリスに、ボンテージパンツや安全ピン付きのジャケットではなく、崇高なブリティッシュネスを感じさせるモッズスーツに身を包み、伝統的なパブロックの流れを汲んだ激しく、トンがったエッジを備えたビートを武器にデビューした三人組は、その後たった六年間でイギリス中の人々の最も愛されるバンドにまで登りつめ、そして解散後は伝説のバンドとなった。
現在においても英国で最も愛されるバンドの一つとして見なされている彼等の、本作が事実上のラストアルバムである。

衝動性・性急さという点ではファースト、モッズ度ではサードには、それぞれ一歩譲るだろうが、成熟した三人のメンバーシップによって紡がれる、ここで聴かれる歌のどれもが、後のポール・ウェラーの結成するSTYLE COUNCILの趣を備えたクールネスを醸し出しており、それ故にこの作品はロック史に残る名盤であると呼んで然るべきであろう。

3や10なんかの名作もさておき、インストの7や隠れた名作9の素晴らしさも筆舌に尽くしがたい。
