80年代中盤、「Rio」や「Seven And The Ragged Tiger」を愛し、デュラン・デュランのすばらしさを語る高校生だった私に、男子達は冷ややかだった。「ビデオがいいだけだろ」「演奏してないんじゃないの」。しかし、そんな彼らがこれを聴くやいなや、一夜にして、もう二度とばかにする発言をしなくなった。

「アンディ弾けたんだな！　センスいいよ」「最初のトニー・トンプソンのドラムにはたまげた。とにかくすげえ」「ロバート・パーマーなんて、どこから引っ張ってきたんだ？」「"Get It On"はオリジナルよりも全然かっこいいよ！」等々、絶賛モードである。

いわゆる「一発屋」の曲には、とてつもないエネルギーがこめられていることが多いが、これは、ロック史上における究極の「一発アルバム」である。リアルタイムで、しかも10代の頃にガツンとやられた私達は、ただただ幸運であった。そして、このプロジェクト直後の「ロバート・パーマーの奇跡」にはめまいがした。「恋におぼれて」が全米第１位になったとき、米国での熱狂ぶりを想像し私は震えたものだ。

しかし、もうこの作品は、純粋に楽しんで聴くことはできない。ロバート・パーマーもトニー・トンプソンもバーナード・エドワーズもこの世にいないからだ。みんな若くして亡くなってしまった。このアルバムには、生きることへの気合いがつまっている。何十年経とうが、いつでもたくさんの音楽ファンを熱狂の渦に巻き込む強大な力を持っていると、私は確信して揺るがない。

８０年代。感性豊かな中高生時代を過ごし、聴くもの全てが新鮮に感じ、和洋問わずにのめりこんだものだ。しかし、当然聞き漏らしも多い。デュラン・デュランはアイドルと思っていた私は当時、聴きたいとは全く思わず。この年齢になってＦＭで改めて出会うアーティストも数多く、ザ・パワーステーションもそのひとつ。１曲目のロバート・パーマーの「Ａｒｅ　ｙｏｕ　ｇｏｎｎａ　ｄｏ　ｉｔ？」というフレーズだけでこのアルバムのカッコよさを理解。確かに捨て曲はない。耳にこびりついて離れないサウンド。この歳になって、２０年前の宝に出会えた。光栄である。

LIMITED EDITIONのシールがありますが限定盤なんでしょうか？DVD付きが限定なのか？迷ってるあなた！買いましょう。こちらのDVDはPALフォーマットですが、他ではNTSCフォーマットのバージョンも存在します。（裏面にNTSCと記載されています。）
