不思議と話題になることが少ないピーター・メイヤーですが、本作以前にもAORの名盤を残しています。ギタープレイヤーとしても数々の作品で素晴らしいプレイを披露していますが、私は彼の独特な歌声が大好きです。都会的・クールとも表現されることもありますが、孤独・寂寥感などの「物悲しさ」を湛えた声でありながら、なぜか癒される、そんな歌声なのです。
本作では美しいギターのインストによるプレリュードから始まります。
３の“Shall We Dance"や８のUnder Your Spellでのコンテンポラリーなミディアムも絶品ですが、本領発揮はラスト３連発のバラード群でしょう。11のFunny、12のBlue Riverを聴いて頂ければ、私の言う「寂寥感」がわかっていただけると思います。
そしてラストを飾る名曲・本作のハイライトはやはり“Blue Eyed Radio”に尽きます。『私はグリーン・アイド・ラジオ。たくさんの聴衆を見たこともないけれど、舞台の幕が引かれた後、月に向かって歌うのさ。自分が誰なのかを知りたがっている皆に向かってね…。』

シンガーソングライター／ギタープレイヤー。八十年代後期にトリオ"PM"名義でWarner Brothers名義でデビューするも、セールス的には振るわず。地元St. Louisに戻ってインディーズから二枚のアルバムを出しました。父親が宣教師だった関係でインドを始め各国を点々としてきた少年時代の経験が彼の一筋縄ではいかないスタイルを形作っています。

時代は変わり、メジャーレーベルと契約していなくても自分のペースで作品を残していけるいい時代になりました。Jimmy Buffetのバンドのバンマス兼ギタープレイヤーとして働きつつ自身の音楽を追究しています。"Green Eyed Radio"はそのの第一弾です。その後数枚のソロアルバムを発表しています。ギターの腕前もジャズ・フュージョン界でも通用するほど！

元PMのギタリストPeter Mayerのソロアルバムです。

非常にノスタルジックな感覚を思わせるやさしいギターを奏でるポップスで、
声は若干Stingを思わせるハスキーな感じです。

PMのバンド時代は１枚だけで活動を終了してしまいましたが、
今回も音楽性の大きな流れは変わらないように思います。
例えば以前のPMに収録されていた「Moonlight Over Paris」は
Vanessa Williamsも取り上げ、優しく歌い上げていたように
このアルバムに収録されている「Shall We Dance?」もマイナー調で切なく、
このアーティストの繊細さを感じさせる佳曲だと言えるでしょう。

午後のゆっくりしたい気分の時などに是非試して欲しいアルバムです。
