   代表曲18曲を収録したエラ・フィッツジェラルドのベスト盤。
   エラはチック・ウェッブ楽団時代に録音した<3>が1938年にチャートの1位にランクされる大ヒットとなって、一躍有名になった。この曲は当時病気療養中だったチック・ウェッブを元気づけようと、エラが子どものころに覚えたメロディに歌詞をつけて完成させたもので、もとは子どものハンカチ落としゲームで歌われる童謡だった。そのため、レコード会社は録音に乗り気でなかったが、発売してみると大ヒット。サクセス・ストーリーは筋書きのないドラマからはじまったのである。<6>はエラが最初にスキャットを披露した曲として知られている。
   こうした若き日の歌声から50~60年代録音まで、エラの魅力を多彩な角度から味わえるのがベスト盤のいいところ。スキャットを大々的にフィーチャーしたノリノリのジャズ・ヴォーカルから、ストレートに歌う珠玉のバラードまで、その内容はさまざまだが、なにを歌ってもさすがエラという存在感を示す。サッチモ、カウント・ベイシー、レスター・ヤングなど共演者の顔ぶれも豪華多彩だ。（市川正二）

ジャズボーカルに足を踏み入れれば必ず通るエラ・フィッツジェラルドの声。
彼女の歌声が多くの人に必要とされる証明として
過去数え切れないアルバムがリリースされている。
初めて手にしたエラのアルバムがこの「Ｐｕｒｅ　Ｅｌｌａ］ならば、
それは金脈を掘り当てたに等しい幸運である。

エラ世界を巡り巡って「Ｐｕｒｅ　Ｅｌｌａ］にたどりついたならば，
暫くこのアルバムに休息を求めるべきである。
憎いほど私の心を捉えたこの作品を是非みなさんにも聞いて頂きたい。
彼女が何故女王の名を拝しているのかがたった１８曲で伝わってくる。
彼女が歌う名曲を「心を込めて」詰め込んだ名盤中の名盤だと感じた。

エラ・フィッツジェラルドの膨大なアルバムの中から、最高のものを選りすぐった１枚である。
澄んで豊かな美しい声、並外れたテクニックとリズム感、日本人には嬉しいはっきりとした発音など全てが心地よい。また、繰り返し聞くうちに、エラのユーモアやおおらかな人柄までもが感じられて、いつしか本当に彼女が好きになってしまう。
曲は、コール・ポーター、アーヴィング・バーリン、ジョージ・ガーシュインらの名曲や、ジャズに詳しくない者にもお馴染みのスタンダード・ナンバーばかりだ。ルイ・アームストロングとの味のあるデュエットや、「マック・ザ・ナイフ」「ハウ・ハイ・ザ・ムーン」などジャズ史に残るベルリン・ライブでの名唱が楽しめるのも、このＣＤならではである。

全18曲、文句なし！
エラの魅力が余すところなく楽しめる一枚だと思います！
さまざまな曲が入っていて、購入したときは統一感がないのではないかと
思ったのですが、やはりそこはエラ。
その実力で、これだけバラエティ溢れる個性の強い曲だらけなのに
違和感を感じさせません。

名盤「マック・ザ・ナイフ」のナンバーも入っているし、JAZZを好きに

なったばかりの人には、なかなかよいと思います。

特にオズの魔法使いでも有名な「OVER THE　RAINBOW」は、
エラのしっとりと優しく、自愛に満ちた声が聞けてよいですよ。
色んな表情が楽しめるのもこの一枚ならでは！と思います。
