ギル・エバンスとの共演で、しかもカーネギー・ホールという大舞台。しかも、オリジナル・クインテットとレギュラー・クインテットの谷間の苦しいメンバーでのコンサートだ。ウイントン・ケリーの快調なピアノは申し分ないが、ジミー・コブとハンク・モブレーはややアキレス腱になる。全体にリズムが重いのが気になるところだ。So Whatではマイルスの高音から低音までを生かした素晴らしいソロが聴ける。ハンク・モブレーもここでは健闘しており、よくスイングしたいいプレイだ。ケリーのリズミックでメリハリの効いたピアノは全体のはつらつとしたイメージを決定しているといえる。Spring Is Hereではギル・エバンスのオーケストラが独特のアレンジで絡んでくる。ステージ・ライブでのオーケストラとの共演は大変だと思う。Teoでもスパニッシュ・ムードいっぱいでギルとマイルスのスケッチ・オブ・スペインを想起させるコラボレーションが見られるが、マイルスの音色がいつも以上にホットなのが目立つ。過渡期のステージ・ライブ盤でのマイルスの異常な頑張りようは、ある意味で大将自ら先陣を切って戦場に向かう悲壮な戦を見る思いがする。
