Features 16 tracks including 4 tracks that did not make the US 'Every Breath You Take: The Classics'collection, 'So Lonely', 'The Beds To Big Without You', 'Synchronicity 2' & 'Tea In The Sahara'. This import edition also contains the original versions of 'Message In The Bottle' & 'Don't Stand So Close To Me' whereas the aforementioned US collection contains updated versions. 今回のベスト盤は，過去に何作かリリースされているベスト盤のなかで，一番良心的な作品だと思われる。2枚組ということで，代表曲以外のアルバムの中の素晴らしい楽曲も網羅され，また，殆どアルバムのリリース順に曲順が並んでいるため，ポリスがたった３人で世界制覇を成し遂げた軌跡を追うことができる。

今更言うまでもないが，ポリスの最大の魅力は楽曲の良さだが，それを抜群のセンスでサウンドメイキングできるメンバーの存在が融合出来たことが大きいと思う。アンディー・サマーズの変幻自在なギターに，鋭利な刃物の様なキレキレのリズムを叩き出すスチュワート・コープランド，サウンドの肝となるレゲエのリズムを生み出すスティングのベースが，スカスカの音像（それも狙いだったと思うが）だったファーストからセカンド〜サードとアルバムを経る度に整合性とセンスを増していき当時世界最強の名を獲得していった。これほどディスコグラフィーに駄作がなくて右肩上がりで人気とアルバムの評価が上がったバンドは稀である。

今聴いても当時世界制覇したサウンドのセンスの良さは寸分も揺らいでいないのは，ポリスのレベルの高さが当時から尋常でなかった証であろう。

再結成を記念して発売されたこのベスト盤、今まで何度かポリスのベスト盤がリリースされていますが、これがイチバンお薦めです!!まず、圧倒的な曲数!!1stシングルのFall Outから始まり、後期の名曲も余すところなく収録!!そしてすべてリマスタリング音源だから音も良し!!
1枚目がポリスのパンクス時代の集大成であるならば、2枚目は更に磨きのかかったスティングのソングライティングをじっくり堪能できるはず!!
また、｢ポリスのベスト盤ならもう持ってるし｣という方も、これは買っておいた方がいいかも。なぜなら、パッケージのセンスが今までのアルバムの中でイチバンお洒落だからです!!まずは半透明のスリーブにプリントされた3人の若かりし頃の姿…ｶｯｺｲｲ。そしてスリーブを取ると鮮やかな黄色のペーパーケースにうっすらと印刷された数々のタイトル…ｶｯｺｲｲ。そして中は…後は購入してご自身の目で確かめてみてください。オマケもついてるよ!!

92年発売CDのSHM-CD版です。

SHM-CDになって素晴しいのは、例えば9曲目「マジック」を聞くとよく判ります。言わずと知れたスティングの代表作ですが、右に左にハイハットが響き、まるでスチュワートの手の長さが見えるようです。アンディのギターのカッティングもよく聞こえてきます。この曲はこうだったのか。この名曲の真の姿を今更知る事が出来て、嬉しくて哀しいです。シンプルなのでしょうが、緻密な作りなことが良く判ります。
ファンは必携ですが、これからポリスを聞く方には、こちら（SHM-CD)をお奨めです。そして、素晴しい世界への扉を開けて下さい。
