ティム・バックリー。私が最も尊敬するシンガーです。私は彼の歌声には高音、低音の上がり下がりという部分よりも、血の通った温かさ、身震いするほどの寒さといった常にどちらかに針が振り切れている感情の状態を感じます。この作品の歌いこまれたどの曲にもそれが顕著に現れていると思います。
最高傑作と名高い次作「スターセイラー」への流れの作品と捉える意見もありますが、歌というものに焦点を当てるのならば私はこちらに軍配を挙げます。

もう一点忘れてはならないのが、エレキギター担当の盟友リー・アンダーウッドの存在です。彼はほとんどのティムの作品でギターを弾いていますが、ここでは異常なほどティムの歌との一体感があり、共鳴するかのような響きを聴かせてくれます。
一音、一音が耳から離れません。

前作"Blue Afternoon"に続いて発表された5作目。2nd"Goodbye and Hello"のキラキラ感とは程とおい暗転に愕然。10分を超える長尺の5曲は極めて抽象的に解釈された即興ブルース / ジャズ。メンバーの一体感が際立った仕上がりであるとともに、ティムバックリーのテンションも高く、魂をしぼるかのような唱法から繰り出される煙のように奇妙な声は純粋に楽曲に奉仕する。もはや楽器音と歌声、メロディとリズムを分かつなにものも無くなった。ほっとさせられる曲もあるのだが、河に散って流れゆく枯葉を眺めるような寂寥感と『アッシャー家の崩壊』にも似た暗い予感に満ちた楽曲の数々。聴いていると空間が捻じ曲がり、背筋が凍りつくような戦慄を禁じえないが、肩に力が入りすぎている時にはこれを服用するに限る...。そう思っている。ひょっとしたら"能"なんか見るのもこんな感じではなかろうか。

日本で「グッバイ・アンド・ハロー」の次に発売されたのが　このAlbum。　これでは認知度が低いのも当たり前ですね。　解説は小倉エージさんですが　スペインの詩人と思しき「ロルカ」を「ここでも歌われている"あなた"の故郷とも言える女性の名なのでしょう」などと記述し　ちょっぴり苦戦気味。　それでも流石は職業評論家　過去のAlbumを紹介することでそれなりの付加価値を捻出していました。　ついでに当時の歌詞カードから一部を抜粋。　「Aah, ah ah ah ah ah, oooh. Ooooh--------. Ah, oh--------」と重苦しさが伝わってきます。　

それはともかく「Nobody Walkin」は　後の「Greetings From LA」を彷彿とさせるJazz-Funkの秀作と思っています。
