ジョン・パットン(org)、グラント・グリーン(g)、ボビー・ハッチャーソン(vibes)、
オーティス・フィンチ(ds)。

間違いなくビッグ・ジョン・パットンの最高傑作で、いわゆるソウル・ジャズの中でも上位に
食い込む力作ですよ。
グリーンのブルージーなギタープレイに、ヴィブラフォンのハッチャーソンのモーダルな
演奏、パットンの、これ以上ないソウルフルな弾きっぷりと、もう堪らないよ本当に！と
思わせる空間が広がります。変に色をつけ加えないフィンチのシャープでスマートなドラミ
ングもまさにソウル。
何といってもタイトル・トラックの「Let 'Em Roll」の気持ち良さったらないが、他も質が
高く、「Latona」と「The Shadow Of Your Smile」なんかは、ゆ〜ったりとした曲調が
体は弛緩させるんだけど、要所要所のグルーヴィなプレイで脳はドライヴしまくり。
思わずニヤリとさせるキャッチーな「Turnaround」や、グリーンの歯切れのいい高速バッキ
ングが見事な「Jakey」など聴かせてくれます。
そしてラストの「One Step Ahead」なんかは泣きが入ってるね・・・これぞソウル。

通して聞いてみて踊りたくなるような感覚でもない、リラックスした感じでもない、不思議な
空間にプカプカ浮いてるような何とも形容できないけど心地いい一枚。

ジャケットも最高にイケてるが、内容はそれ以上ですよ！
ありきたりなジャズ形式に飽きてる人なんかには最高に嵌まる作品じゃないかな。

重量感溢れるオルガンジャズだ。リーダーはJohn Patton(org),バックにGrant Green(g),Bobby Hutcherson(vib),Otis Finch(ds)のオルガンジャズのオールスターズが揃う。オルガンに絡むブルージーなグリーンのギターがジャージーな雰囲気を盛り上げる。徹底した後乗りリズムのフィンチのドラムスがシャッフルビートを強調する。これだけならば通常のノリノリコテコテジャズで終わる。だが本盤の特徴はビブラフォーンのハッチャーソンだ。彼のインテリジェンス溢れるバイブが知的な雰囲気を振りまき、上品さと深みを加えているのが良い。普通のハードバップファンの方でもこれはきっと気に入るはず。あと昔から有名なのは、赤を基調としたボディコンギャル？のジャケ。いいですねこれ、昔のディスコのお立ち台を思い出して好きです。

名盤の類ではありませんが、
普通にオルガン・ジャズを楽しむには結構良いです。

録音年は記載が有りませんが、ジャケットデザインや
演奏のリズムパターンからして1960年代半ばの作品でしょう。

パットン（org）の他、グラント・グリーン（g）、
ボビー・ハッチャーソン（vib）、オーティス・フィンチ（ds）
録音：ルディ・ヴァン・ゲルダー

特にハイクオリティなマスタリングでもありませんが、
音質も悪くないです。

定番どころを一通り聞いて、他に何かないかなー、
と探してる人向け。
