グラント・グリーン(g)、ジョー・ヘンダーソン(ts)、ボビー・ハッチャーソン(vibes)、
デューク・ピアソン(p)、ボブ・クランショウ(b)、アル・ヘアウッド(ds)。

グリーン名義だが、とりわけ目立ってるのはヴィブラフォンのハッチャーソン。全編に亘って
その独特な響きが美しい一枚です。
まずオープニングを飾る「アイドル・モーメンツ」は、ムード歌謡曲でも始まったのかと
思わせるスローで、なんとも力の抜けた曲。グリーンのセクシーなフレーズに聞き惚れてると
眠くなったりしてくるが、そこでハッチャーソンのヴァイブが気持ちよく起こしてくれます。
次は打って変わってアップテンポの「ジャン・デ・フルール」だが、軽い疾走感溢れるアン
サンブルに、グリーンのシンプルなソロ、ヘンダーソンのメリハリ効いた語り口、ヴァイブの
気持ちいいスピード感と軽妙な１曲。
名曲「ジャンゴ」と「ノマド」はバランス良く綺麗に仕上げられているが、やはりヴァイブの
美しい響きが一際目立つなあ。

このアルバムに関してはグリーンはシンプルなプレイに徹していて、やはりハッチャーソンの
ディープなプレイ、ポップなプレイと唸らされる出来栄えかな。ヴィブラフォンという楽器の
魅力を存分に味わえる秀作です。

グラント・グリーンのアルバムはこのアイドルモーメンツがはじめて聴いたアルバムです。１曲目のジャンゴの渋さ、奥深さ、誰にも真似できないと思います。以前のジャンゴのオルタネートテイクス入りのＣＤもでましたのでグリーンを知りたい方にはゼッタイ御奨めです。ブルージーで独特な単音針飛びフレーズを嘆能して下さい。ジャケットも渋い！

表題曲はデューク・パールソンの作曲のアイドル・モーメンツ、「空っぽな時間」。甘ったるい曲だ。という人もいるが、口ずさみたくなるような美しい曲だ。なぜかグラント・グリーン以外のミュージシャンが演奏しているのを聴いたことがない。ＭＪＱのジョン・ルイスがジプシー出身のギタリスト、ジャンゴ・ラインハルトに捧げた「ジャンゴ」も美しい。グリーンはブルーノートに数々のアルバムを残しているが、選曲のよさ、ちょっとブルージーで甘いグリーンのギター・プレーの最骨頂はこのアルバムにある。ジャケットも例のブルーノート調でいいね。（松本敏之）
