・バックコーラスとして参加したＢＢのハーモニーの威力にあらためて感動。
・もともとのブライアン・ウイルスンの作曲の素晴らしさがここでも光り輝く（全てＢＢの持ち歌であるがブライアン作でないものもある）。

・どのヴォーカリストもＢＢを台無しにしてしまっていないどころか、ＢＢのコーラスが不思議と彼ら各人にマッチして違った持ち味の歌い手（あくあるが上手）によるビーチ・ボーイズを楽しめる。ＢＢたちも楽しんだと思うのです。

・コーラスだけの参加なんてやってらんないよとＢＢが言えばこれは実現しなかった（これまでにも色々な所でＢＢはバックを勤めている）。そんなこと言わないのはビーチ・ボーイズがいかにコーラスを重視しているか、それに多くの意義を認め、音楽を非常に愛しているのがわかる。

・・・ともかく、私はこの企画を存分に楽しみました。ＢＢが歌ってないなんて言わずにまあ１度聞いてみてくださいよ。

これが最後のビーチボーイズのアルバムだと思うと泣けてくる。
メンバーはコーラスに参加したのみ。画像としては「ナッシュビル・サウンズ」に詳しいが、メンバーがリードヴォーカルを取っていないアルバムを最後の一枚と認めるにはいささかの抵抗があるのだ。それも「Vol.1」なのだから。
このセッション直後、カールが死に、メンバーもブライアンとそのバンド、アル・ジャーディーン＆フレンズ、そしてマイク主導の「ビーチボーイズ」と三分裂することになる。
しかも、新譜を出して、「スマイル」にもけりをつけたのはブライアンだけだった！（アルも「ライブ・イン・ラスベガス」を出してはいるが）

「ビーチボーイズ」とは極言すれば「ブライアンとその他大勢」なのだが、スマイル事件以降「その他大勢」が仕切る時間が長すぎた。身内だけのバンドという解散できない悲惨さがこのアルバムを生んだ。

バンドの歴史からこの一枚を抹消してもらいたい。ファンはそう願うだけである。
