sea and cakeのディスコの中でも地味な部類に入ってしまうのかな、このアルバムは。
ネットを探しても中々レビューを見かけないし、ココにすら一つもなかった。
実際自分も手に取るのを後回しにしていたのですが、いや、これがなかなかいいですぞ。この際なんで書いてしまいましょう。

柔らかな感触を受ける彼らの作品群のなかでもひときわふわふわした、アブストラクトな印象を受けるアルバムです。
ギター、ベース、キーボードそれぞれが暖かい空気に包まれたかのような音作りをされていて、
それらが彼らお得意の少し芯をはずしたかのような、それでいてツボを突くボサノヴァ調のコード進行に乗る。
緩やかに演奏が流れていくので、注意していないと曲間すら見逃してしまいそう。
クリーム色の雲の上に乗って日向ぼっこ、みたいなイメージですかね。癒されます。

歴史の長いバンドの遷移の中を探っていくと、代表作、傑作と呼ばれる前の地点での、
発展途上的な曖昧な良さをみたいのを発してる作品が必ずあるものですが、
これもいわばそれに当たるんじゃないかな、と思いました。
キャリアを積む過程の間にしか出せない魅力を感じます。
長い目で見てきたファンの方には結構愛されてきたんじゃないかな。
大傑作「oui」はこの次にリリースされた作品で、私のオールタイムベストの一枚なのですが、
これら以降の彼らの音は、ロックのトレンドにのって比較的キビキビした音作りにシフトしていってます。
「one bedroom」なんてこれと比べるとちょっと暴力的なくらいピキピキしてる。
勿論後期のの作品も素晴らしいの一言なのですが、
ouiで完成しきる前の、ふやけたこのバンドの良さを味わうという意味でひとつコレどうですか。
愛しがいがあると思いますよ。

アルバムを買うタイミングってのは結構重要で、予想以上に私たちリスナーはそういった偶発的要素に左右されていると思う。
「まずは代表作からだろ」みたいな慣習的不文律をかいくぐってこういったタイプのアルバムを好きになってあげるってのは、
良きリスナーとしての一つの責務（なんてもんがあるか、という話ですが）なんではないかな。
愛してあげなきゃね。
