   各トラックの基本的な仕上げ方はいつもどおりだ。キャッチーなイントロから軽快なグルーヴへと移り、そこにボッティが入って、ブルージーで澄みきったフレーズをサウンドにそっと塗りこめるのだ。ボッティは常にすてきなトランペットを聴かせてくれる。かすかに感情をほとばしらせる「Mr. Wah」は控え目ながら味わい深く、ボッティがとびきりエレガントなプレイヤーであることを思い出させてくる。それでいながら、いつだってリスナーにもっと聴きたいと思わせるのだ。

   この2作目のソロアルバムは、悲劇的なラブ・サスペンス『Caught』の大ヒットした映画音楽を完成させたのちに制作されている。映画で用いられ本作にも収録されたジョンサン・ブルックの歌う「Forgiven」は、この映画のベストトラックとは言いがたいが、“すてきな”バラードであることにまちがいない。ボッティのもっと物静かで情熱的な面をお望みのリスナーには、サントラ盤『Caught』を手に取ることをおすすめする。（Yngvil V.G., Amazon.co.uk）

Chris Botti continues here pretty much where he left off from his First Wish album, even though the opening track, "The Steps of Postiano", promises a composer more confident and mature than last time round. Playing with a vast array of top session musicians, the trumpeter also uses the Native American drum extensively, a simple ingredient which deepens his message considerably. The basic recipe for his tunes remains the same: first, a catchy intro that modulates into a light groove , then Botti comes in, dabbing the sound picture with his bluesy, crystal-clear lines. He always plays some beautiful trumpet, and on "Mr. Wah" his little outburst is a modest, tasteful reminder of what a classy player he is. But he always leaves us wanting more. This second solo album came after Botti had completed an extremely successful film score for the love-thriller-tragedy Caught. Midnight Without You features the track "Forgiven" from that movie, sung by Jonathan Brooke, far from the best track from the movie but is indisputably a "nice" ballad. Listeners who like the more serene, intense qualities of Botti's playing are advised to turn to the Caught album which is highly recommended. --Yngvil V.G.
