   ヴァーヴのオーナー・プロデューサー、ノーマン・グランツは、大物同士を共演させるのが大好きだった。JATPと呼ばれる一連のオールスター・コンサートはヴァーヴだからこそ、グランツだからこそ、実現可能なドリーム・セッションだったといっていい。そうしたグランツの嗜好を反映して、ヴァーヴにはスタジオ録音にも大物同士の共演盤が多い。57年録音の本作もそうした1枚で、ディジー・ガレスピー、ソニー・スティット、ソニー・ロリンズの3人が顔をそろえ、丁々発止とやり合うところが最大の魅力だ。

   スティットはアルトとテナー両方の達人だが、ここではテナー1本で勝負、同じ楽器の後輩ロリンズに勝負を挑み、勇猛果敢にバトル・ロイヤルを演じる。特に< 2 >「The Eternal Triangle」に聴かれるスティットとロリンズのテナー対決は、延々10分以上に渡る白熱の演奏で興奮させられること必至。格上のガレスピーはマイ・ペースの演奏、< 1 >「On The Sunny Side Of The Street」ではヴォーカルも披露する。大物同士の共演、しかもお互いが熱くなってパンチを繰り出し、応酬し合うところがとてもスリリングだ。（市川正二）

　ディジーのヴォーカルも楽しい1。スティットとロリンズの歴史に残る死闘が１４分以上にわたって繰り広げられる2。スティット恐るべし。
　どこかビッグ・バンド的なノリもありつつ、達人が全力投球したかのような凄いアルバムです。ディジーもとても溌剌としています。
　物凄く格好良い。

　私個人的にはこれ以上良いアルバムは無いと思う。
　個人的な好みもあって、スティットとロリンズのテナーでのバトルが聞けるのは言うまでも無く素晴らしいし嬉しい限りだが、スティットもロリンズもディジーも最高の状態でプレイしているように感じられ、音楽的な内容も素晴らしいことをやっている。

　これ以上スリリングで、ジャズの面白さが感じ取れるアルバムは他に知らない。
　絶対に聞いて損は無いと思う。ジャズをやられる方には是非、聞いていただきたいアルバムです。
