   エディ・ゴメス（B）は66年にビル・エヴァンス・トリオに参加。彼はエヴァンスとラファロが築き上げたスタイルをきっちり踏襲し、以後11年の長きにわたってエヴァンスの女房役をつとめる。ドラムスは、現代ジャズ界最高のドラマーであるジャック・デジョネット。エヴァンスより15歳ほど年下の、若手2人は本盤録音時点ではまだまだ無名。後にコンテンポラリー・ジャズ界を背負って立つ2人のはつらつとしたプレイと、それに刺激されいつになく力強いタッチのエヴァンス。
   さらに、世界有数のジャズ・フェスティヴァルでのライヴという付加価値が加わり、稀にみる名演が生まれた。ハイライトは愛奏曲<4>で、生涯で最もパワフルな演奏になっている。多くの名作ライヴ盤を生んだ同フェスティヴァル、その最初の名盤。ジャケット写真に写るのは、会場のすぐ近く、スイス・レマン湖のほとりに建つ古城。本作は「お城のエヴァンス」としてファンに親しまれる。（高木宏真）

1968年のモントゥルー・ジャズ・フェスティバルでのライブ演奏を収録。最初のミュージシャン紹介から最後の盛り上がりまで、臨場感たっぷり。エヴァンスのピアノにゴメスのベースが絡みつき、さらにエヴァンスが疾走を続けるという個性と個性のぶつかりあい、つまりはスリリングなインタープレイが展開。ゴメスが目立とうとし出過ぎ、という声もありますが、こういうエヴァンスもいいなあと思わせてくれる一枚。グラミー賞受賞も大いにうなずける。

「いつか王子様」のアドリブの流れるような指さばきは聞いていると気持ちよくなってくる！ラファロとの演奏に匹敵します！
他の曲もエヴァンスがアグレッシブで熱気があっていいです。

ただしドラマーが少し叩きすぎかな。特にナーディス（ライブだから仕方ないけど・・・）ジャック・デジョネットはキースジャレットトリオの印象が強いのでエヴァンスにはあっていない気がする・・

でもエヴァンスの好きなアルバム５本の指に入ります！

ラファロとエバンスの演奏は女同士の会話という感じ。
楽しげで品がある。
ゴメスとエバンスの場合はゴメスが男でエバンスが女という感じ。
ちょっとゴメスが前に出すぎ。
と言ったら語弊があるか。
エバンスはぶつかり合うことはなく、そうすることがベストという演奏。
これをスリルと呼ぶか、不協と呼ぶか・・。

ただ、One for Helenはとてもいい。
前奏からしていい。
Time感（こんな言葉あるのか？）、フレージング、ゴメスの入り、そしてテーマという流れ。
これは間違いなくスリル。

Quiet Now。
とても重厚。
分厚く黒いハーモナイズ。

結局★５つですよ。
