今回は、デュトワ＆モントリオール響のローマ三部作の紹介です。長年にわたって、高い評価を得てきた演奏の一つだと思います。とにかく録音技術が素晴らしい。高い録音によって再現される、モントリオールの透明感のあるサウンドが魅力かもしれません。

　個人的には全作品好きなのですが、特に「ローマの松」と「ローマの噴水」が良いと思います。まれに、オケによっては、演奏にアタリハズレがあると思いますが、このＣＤに関していえば、レスピーギのオーケストラレーションの特徴をよく表わした素晴らしい演奏だと思っています。

　それでも、細部を突っ込めば、ここがあそこがと欲も出てくるのでしょうが、オケの音質に幅があるので、安定した音の広がりを見せてくれ、我々を納得させてくれる演奏に仕上がっていますよ。ただ、このCDに関しては、わたしには、デジタル録音技術が高すぎて、逆に機械的なサウンドに聞こえてしまうところが、唯一の弱点かもしれませんね。それでも、全曲、質の高い演奏揃いですので、聞く価値はありますよ。初心者の方でも、安心してお勧めできる逸品です。

それゆえ、今回の評価は、【星５つ】とします。

表現力、技量ともに素晴らしい評価を得ているデュトワ／モントリオールのコンビによる、心地よいサウンドがウリの一枚です。が、どこか物足りない気もしてくるのは何故でしょうかね？確かに「巧い」「キレイ」「優秀録音」の３拍子は感じるのですが、いかにも優等生的で、無難にまとめすぎたのがどうも気になります。録音が当時の最高の技術が注がれ過ぎてるせいもあってか、音質に硬さも感じてしまうのは私だけでしょうか？他曲の録音では間違いなくベスト５入りの評価を数多く得ている楽団だけに、ちょっと淋しいですね。『松』のアッピア街道~のテンポに関しては、速すぎる印象を拭えませんね…あれではローマ軍の凱旋は駆け足位に思えてしまい…作曲者の意向を無視したのですかね？と、巧いけど迫力に欠けるということで☆３つです。
