スキゾイドマン〜レッドまで、あらゆるジャンルの音楽を駆使して壮大な音世界を作り上げたK.クリムゾン。ジャズ、クラシック、エスニックの要素が濃厚なので、ロック命の人には辛いと思います（私はそこが大好きなのですが）。
このアルバムもまず、シンプルなリフレインで呪術的トランス状態へと導き、頂点で奈落の底へ一気に突き落とされます。そして圧巻は弦楽四重奏に続く表題曲。基本的にはピアノを伴奏としたシンプルな曲ですが、個としての人間を大海に浮かぶ島々に例え、irands join hands〜と結びます。東洋的な、禅に通ずる世界を強く感じ、聴く度に心に迫るものがあります。P.シンフィールドの詩人としての才能はクリムゾンの音のユニークさに隠れがちかも知れませんが、美しく韻を踏んだ格調高さがあり、ボズの声とも相まって、つい一緒に歌ってしまいます。クリムゾンの曲には意外とメロディアスでポップなものがあり、例えヒットチャートは賑わさなくても、すばらしい歌がいっぱいあります。決して晴れやかな音や内容ではないのですが言葉（英語）の、そしてメロディーの美しさもぜひ、味わってください。

発表されてからもう３０年以上になるが今でも新鮮さを失っていないすばらしい作品集である。Crimsonがまだ誰にでもわかり、且つ自分たち独自の音を創り出していた時期の傑作。曲のすばらしさ。卓越した演奏技術、抜群の着想、全てにおいて革新的である。

１９７１年通算４作目・・・ロバートフリップの存在が希薄な１枚。室内楽やフリー系のサウンドなので、あまりロックを感じません・・・一般的なクリムゾンを求めてしまうと肩透かしを喰います（まあ一般的クリムゾンと言うのは無理がありますが・・・）。このアルバムからボズバレル・イアンウォーレスのリズムセクションになっています。このアルバムのサウンドから「アースバウンド」の破壊的・暴力的なものに変化するのですから、本当驚いてしまいます。クリムゾンの中でもっとも「静」を感じるアルバム！！個人的には、クリムゾン収集の最後にまわしたアルバムでした。
