実に明晰としたチャイコフスキーで、強弱のメリハリもあり、この古き良き時代のシカゴの管のソロも名人芸の一言で理想的な演奏といえますわな。ステレオ録音最初期ながら、RCAの録音のよさはシカゴのホールの反響のよさと相俟って、今なお最高レベルといえるんちゃいますやろか。グラモフォン4D録音やデノンPCM録音と甲乙つけがたい豊かなサウンドです。その点、このアナログ録音の長所は倍音を制約なく再現できるスーパーオーディオCDの方がいかされるので、最近発売されているSACDハイブリッド盤（値段は大概CDと同じ）をお勧めいたします。

そうなんですが、この悲愴をシノーポリ指揮フィルハーモニア盤、短い中にドラマが内在している「1812」をアンチェル指揮チェコフィルハーモニー盤と聴き較べると、何かがモノ足りん気がいたします。何なんでっしゃろ？おそらく、全てがクリアに、明示的な形で表現されとりますから、比較的色彩主義といいますかメロディやオーケストレーションのテクニカルな面白さが優れていると見なされとるチャイコフスキーでもその晩年の心のヒダをうまく表現できては居らんのちゃいますやろか。せっかくの美人、スーパーボディでもいきなりご開脚ご開陳では萎えてしまいますわな
