音質はよくないですが、その演奏に味があります。
演奏にホロヴィッツ独特の良き色気があります。
展覧会の絵など　彼のオリジナルバージョンですが
下品さと上品さを行ったりきたりで
正統派の展覧会の演奏を忘れるほどのものでした。
彼こそはピアニスト魔術師だと思った演奏です。
またスクリャービンの妖しさといったら引き込まれそう。
切れがよく爆走するプロコフィエフの戦争ソナタ最終楽章は鳥肌ものです

表題は“MUSSORGSKY”となっていますが、1947年スタジオ録音の“展覧会の絵”を主体とし、
1928〜1979年の比較的若い頃の貴重な録音を集めたこのCD。
SP盤が元になっているものも含まれるためノイズが多いのが難点ですが、
それにしても大変貴重で興味深い内容です。
展覧会の絵は1951年のライヴ録音の白熱ぶりにはかないませんが、
この録音も“ホロヴィッツバージョン”としての完成度はかなり高く、
この曲を手玉に取り、楽しみながら弾いている様が伝わってきます。
スクリャービンやチャイコフスキーなどのマイナーな曲も存在感抜群で、
ノイズをかき分けて聴く者に多くを訴えかけてきます。

　このＣＤのメインは疑いもなく「展覧会の絵」だ。このホロヴィッツ独特の演奏は一度聴いたらしばらくは忘れることができないだろう。
