オールマンブラザーズバンド名義の名盤はほかにもたくさんありますが、個人的には一番ＡＢＢっぽいと思うのが何気にこの１ｓｔアルバムではと思います。なんと言っても荒々しいブルースフィーリングをたっぷりツインギターと、重量感のあるドラムとベース、濁声のボーカル。サザンロックの王道を行く、本当にかっこいいバンドです。

オールマンのデビュー作。ツインドラムにスライドギター、男臭いボーカルで、ブルースをやられると、とたんにじっとり湿っぽい南部の香りがし始める。ツインギターによる、即興演奏は緊張感があり、トリップしそうな空間に陥る。この後、フィルモアイーストライブという素晴らしいライブアルバムを発表する彼らだが、デビュー作ということで、それまでのパワーを一気に放出したような感のある、このアルバムも素晴らしい。アルバム最後の曲whipping postのテンションの高さ、暑さも素晴らしい。

ブル-ズをベ-スに、ジャズ的要素を大胆に取り入れ、且つそこに、南部の香りをプンプンさせたロックアルバムである。当時（’６９年）としては珍しいツインドラムにツインギタ-という編成で非常にダイナミックで且つ、黒っぽいサウンドがたまらない。天下一品のスライドギタ-を聞かせるDuane Allmanと,彼に決して引けを取らないDickey Bettsという２大ギタリストのインプロビゼイションが何と言っても最大の聞き物。また、スケ-ルの大きい、Duaneの弟のＧreggのボ-カルも非常にサウウンドにマッチして聞き応えがある。これは彼らのデビュ-作であるが既にもう完成の域に達しているように思える。アメリカンロック史上に残る大名盤である。
