７４年のライブ盤。バンドリーダーとして、いつもは強力な支配力を発揮するミンガスが、サポートに徹した熱すぎるジャム。

何せメンバーが、ローランド・カークにジョン・ハンディ、ジョージ・アダムス、チャールス・マクファーソン、ジョン・ファディス、ドン・プーレン、ダニー・リッチモンドだ。特にカークは珍しくワンホーンのみで、彼の演奏でもベストのひとつといえる熱演。他の面々も熱いソロを取っている。

驚きはソロがないミンガスのベースだが、これが地を揺るがすような、腹の底から響くような、あのミンガス・ベースラインでメンバーをサポート。これが実に気持ちいい。ミンガスほど、聴いていて心地よく昂ぶるベースはないと思うのだが、どんなものだろう。

何はともあれ、ジャズメンたちの熱気がそのまま伝わるような超名盤。ミンガスのメッセージ性やバンドリーダーとは違った魅力が全開である。

　ごっついベースが先導する「C Jam Blues」冒頭から体がひとりでに右左に揺れる、ノリノリの９人編成 Mingus グループ74年1月ＮＹはカーネギーホールライブ！　
　John Handy(as)が幕を切って落とす各ミュージシャン個性炸裂の大ソロ合戦で、ゴリゴリの Hamiet Bluiett(bs)、ビュルビュルの先発テナー George Adams(ts)、循環ブレッシングとド迫力ロングトーンをぶちかます Roland Kirk(ts)、おもむろに細めのミュートを吹く Jon Faddis(tp)、トリで軽やかなソロの Charles McPherson(as)まで全員が素晴らしい。
　次に「Perdido」でダンサブル２連発！　Handy、Bluiett に続く Kirk はここでも文句なしの大ブローで会場拍手喝采、そこに割って入ってくる McPherson はアルトの魅力でメロディアスに決め、細分化されたメロディーと激トレモロの Adams。最後は Faddis がお祭りに相応しい高音ヒットぶり。
　Dannie Richmond のドラムが四方八方に飛び出してくるような素晴らしい録音の立体感も述べておかねばなるまい。
　こうした個性炸裂のソロはほっておいても耳にはいてくるので、ここは一つ集中して、がっつり熱いビートを延々と繰り出す Mingus のベースを追いかけよう。演奏者の火の玉ぶりもボトムヒートの Mingus が煽ってこそ。さすが Mingus だ！

ここまで聴衆の感情を昂ぶらせたライブも、そうは無いであろう。約４６分全２曲は聴く前は長いと思うが、聴いてみると一瞬だ。ミンガスは勿論だが、このアルバムの主人公はローランドカークである。特にパーディドのカークはフレーズ、乗り、テクニック、構成すべて完璧であり耳を疑う。地鳴りの様な拍手、歓声！！！！！ソロが終わったあとも聴衆の興奮はおさまらず、次のソロイスト（マクファーソン）が気の毒である。いやカーク以外の全員が引き立て役になってしまっている。カークの全てをここまで出させたミンガスに脱帽。
