ELPの作品の中でも最も美しい雰囲気をかもし出している作品。優れた楽曲が多く、親しみやすいメロディーと優れた編曲が光る。特にホウダウンなどは、とても30年以上前の曲とは思えない名曲だ。エマーソンのキーボードはアルバム全編において大活躍で、シンセやオルガンはもちろん、本職のピアノは申し分なく素晴しい。他のアルバムに比べて地味だといわれるが、それらにおとらない好アルバムだと思う。（文句を言うとしたら、8曲目は収録しないほうがよかったと思う。）
K2HDフォーマットでは各楽器の分離がはっきりし、低温が強調されて、より現代っぽい音になっている。改めてELPが当時サウンド面においていかに斬新であったかを確認できる。このアルバムが最新技術の高音質で聴けてこの値段はかなりいけてると思います。買いです。

ELPの通算4作目、スタジオ制作盤としては通算3枚目にあたります。
当初はやや高音域がカットされた音質でしたが、K2盤になったら、
かなり高域にゆとりのある音質になりました。
内容は、安定感を崩さない範囲で冒険を試みている感じで、前作
までで提示したELPの作風をしっかり踏まえつつも無難に固まらず、
聴き応え感を拡大させている事に成功しています。
ホウダウンは長期に渡って彼らのライブのオープニングを飾った
名曲ですし、表題曲のトリロジーも見事な編曲と演奏が聴けます。
なお、この紙ジャケット内側の、林の中に沢山のメンバーが配置さ
れている合成写真ですが、若い頃のメンバーの美青年ぶりが発揮
されたこの写真が、とある同性愛嗜好雑誌で無断使用された事件が
あったそうです。

EL&Pの最高傑作としてよく言われるのは恐怖の頭脳改革やタルカス、展覧会の絵などですか、僕はこのトリロジーが一番好きです。一曲目から三曲目にかけての　永遠の謎　が切なさや虚無感を僕に感じさせてくれます。それがすごく僕の心に響いてきます。それが僕がこのトリロジーが一番好きな理由です。もちろん上記の三作もオススメですが、このトリロジーもオススメです！！ぜひ聴いてみてください！！
