１９６８年日本にモンキーズが来日した頃（彼らの人気絶頂期）に作られた「カルト映画」の元祖、「ＨＥＡＤ」のサントラ盤。当時、ＬＰリリースが遅れたが、ジャケットが当時としては画期的な銀箔張りという手の込んだものだったためです。しかしこの遅れと、ピーターの脱退というグループの危機により、日本での人気が下降し、また、内容が分かりにくい事から、配給元が二の足を踏み、日本での公開はされず、サントラ盤だけリリースされました。８０年代にＣＭなどがきっかけで再評価された時に限定公開されましたが、私は見られず、先日のＮＨＫＢＳで初めて見ました。サントラ盤は、曲と曲の間に、映画のシーンの一場面の会話を挿入しており、それが映画の何処に使われているか、初めて知りました。そして、サントラに収録する価値のある、大切な場面である事がわかります。単純にコラージュとして音だけを楽しむのも一興ですが、出来れば、本編を見てから聴くと、良さが倍加されます。アメリカ版ビデオはアマゾンでも取り扱っていますので、そちらもどうぞ。日本版ＤＶＤが期待されます。音楽だけでもお薦めです。

目まぐるしく移り変わる６０年代の音楽シーンに
完全に取り残された感のあったモンキーズだったが
このアルバムではサウンドコラージュ等
先進的な試みがなされ、単なるアイドルグループでは無いことを誇示している。
サイケ好きに取ってはキャッチーで勢いのあった
初期よりもこのヘッドやスターコレクターのような
実験的だったモンキーズの方がおおむね好評だったりもする。
モンキーズを単なるアイドルグループだと思ってる人に特にオススメしたい一枚。

映画「ＨＥＡＤ」のサントラ盤。なのに当時映画は公開されず、曲間のセリフがどう使われているのか、すごく気になっていたことを思い出す。そういえば、当時あたりまえの誤訳がこのアルバムにもあり、「Ｗｈｉｔｅ．Ｉｓｎ’ｔ　ｉｔ．」（白だね）となっていて、どんな場面か気になっていたのだけれど、映画ではミッキーが砂漠をさ迷うシーンで「Ｑｕｉｅｔ．Ｉｓｎ’ｔ　ｉｔ．」（静かだね）だった。あの頃はひどい誤訳がたくさんあった。
私は映画の方は好きではない（モンキーズファンとしても駄作としかいえない）ので、アルバムとして曲を楽しむことにしています。
