ほぼカバー曲で占められた、Donny Hathawayのバラードアルバム。ちなみにDonny自身が作曲したものは8曲目の"Take a Love Song"のみ。
選曲はとにかくDonnyの性格を表すかのような、優しさと慈悲そして愛に満ちたもので、全ての曲がオリジナルをも遥かに凌駕する程、クオリティの高いアレンジでコーティングされ、美しい旋律を残している。3曲目"Little Girl"はBilly Prestonの名曲なのだが、Billy本人がこのDonny Hathawayのカバーバージョンを聴いて、あまりのクオリティの高さに驚きで固まってしまったとも言われている。

柔らかなピアノの音と、心地良いストリングス。そして、全ての人の心を暖かく包み込んでくれるような、彼の深い呼吸から生み出される伸びやかな歌声。全てが上手く重なり合って、懐の深い包容力のあるサウンドを作り出している。

どの曲もかなりスローなテンポで、Donnyはその歌詞の一言一言をきっちりと噛締めながら歌い上げている。それだけに彼の繊細すぎる感情が聴いている側にも強く伝わってくる。The Holliesの"He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"はその歌詞の美しさから聴いていて涙が出そうになってくる。唯一Donnyの作曲した"Take a Love Song"も彼の作品の中で1番美しい旋律と暖かい想いを感じさせてくれる名曲だと思う。
勿論彼の持ち味でもあるジャズの要素を取り入れたファンキーな曲も良いけれど、こういったバラードソングこそ、彼の音楽の真骨頂ではないかと思う。

卓越したセンス以上に彼自身が持っていた、心の温かさがにじみ出るようなアルバムです。忙しい日常で見失いかけていた大切なものを思い出させてくれるようなアルバムです。
