このバンドといえばまず「シャイン」が出るかもしれませんが、こっちも必聴。5はFREE SOUL WING & WINDにも収録されているクラブ・クラシック。支持率高いですよね。ア・トライブ・コールド・クエスト、ピート・ロック、ブランド・ヌビアンなどのサンプリングネタも詰まった、若者にこそ是非聴いてもらいたいお得なアルバムです。

名曲ばかりです。
自分が以前ベースをやっていたせいか、ファンクと言うとベースに耳がいってしまうのですが、コレは完璧。
「Im　the　one」のベースラインにヤられました。
ベース好きなら、お薦めです。

『どこにでもあるような並みの白人バンド』とはえらく謙虚な＝ふざけたバンド名である。このバンドは歴史がやたら長い。なもんでアルバムも鬼のように出てる。

１９７２年にスコットランドで結成。このアルバム発表時点でのメンツはロジャーボール／マルコムダンカン／スティーヴフェローン／アランゴーリー／オニーマッキンタイヤｰ／ハｰミッシュシュチュアートである。そしてプロデューサーがアリフマーディンである。

このバンドは本当にワイルドチェリーとともに白人が黒人ファンクをやって成功した数少ない例なのである。解散そして再結成をくり返しているねばり強いバンドであり、最近ではイタリアのイルマレーベルからアルバムをひっそりとリリースしているのである。

このアルバムは、４枚目にあたり、ドラムのメンバーがドラッグのヤリ過ぎで死亡したので代わりに元ブラッドストーンのスティーヴを迎え入れたものでやはりドラムがすごい。曲もすばらしいものが多く。聞き答えがあるものばかり。無理に時代に迎合したりしてなくて、自然に音楽をやってるのが素晴らしい。

自然と体が動くナンバーが多い。スィートミュージックとはよくいうものだが、まさにこのアルバムにはそのような甘美な調べとリズムが奇跡的に現出したアルバムと言える。

ブランドニューへヴィーズ／インコグニートなどもろもろの英国ジャズファンクバンドに影響を与えたであろう偉大なバンドである。

白人ながらレアグルーヴの筆頭にあげられる彼等。クラブでのサンプリングネタになったりしていてやはりその方面での影響力も絡大である。あたアーバンメローまでこなすボーカリスト＝アランゴリーのシンガーとしての力量にも注目だ。

復活後の彼等たとえば『アフターショック』なんかにはここにあるような『独特のマジックと空気は』存在しないのだ。

時代との接点を模索する彼等をおれはばかには決してできない、それはおれとて混迷しているからなのだ。白人ファンクというのはかくも難しい者なのだ。押さえぎみのクールなファンクがたまらない作品だ。

７０年代のブルーアイドソウルというくくりで分類できると思うが、たとえば、ロバートパーマー／シンプリーレッド／ヴァンモリソン／ポールキャラック／クリスチャンズ／トッドラングレン／フランキーミラー／ホール＆オーツ／ファインヤングカンニバルズ／屋敷豪太／カルチャメラブ／スティーヴウインウッド／ダンハートマン／ロッドスチュアート／クリスファーロー／マイケルマクドナルド／ボズスキャッグス／ジャックブルース／グレンヒューズなんかが好きな人におすすめです。
