小生現在５２歳、中学時代にＴＶで見たモンキーズと一緒
に青春時代を過ごした一人。私にとっては、
音楽の楽しさ、素晴しさを知らせてくれた最高のグループ。
当時ビートルズ、ローリングストーンズのファン友達から
演奏出来ないモンキーズなんて・・・と肩身の狭い想いも
したこともあったが、このＣＤを聴きながらけっこう頑張って
いたんだと、込み上げる嬉しさと涙を抑えながら聴くモンキーズ
ファン必須の一枚であります。

モンキーズに限らず、アメリカの当時のヒット・グループは、スタジオ録音では、セッションマンがミュージックトラックを演奏し、ボーカル部分にグループが参加してアルバムやシングル曲を作っていた。ビーチ・ボーイズやバーズでも初期はそうゆう手法で録音していた（あの、「ペット・サウンズ」でも同じ）。モンキーズは、メンバーをオーディションで公募して「創られた」グループなので、特にその点が強調されすぎたきらいが強かったので、実は４人とも、元々、音楽畑出身であることと、ＴＶショウが大ヒットしたので、ついにＬＩＶＥを行いました。このＣＤは、グループ解散後に世に出た最初の公式ＬＩＶＥ盤です。時期的に「ヘッドクォーターズ」発売直後だったため、そのアルバムからも選曲されています。唯一、アメリカではシングルカット曲の無いアルバムでしたが、彼らの勢いを感じます。ミッキーは元々、ギタリストだったのですが、ドラマーの役となった上、メインボーカル曲が多いので、大変だったと想像されます。音質は、後に４枚組のセットで４つの公演を収録した限定盤が出ましたが、その中からの抜粋ですので、まあまあといったところ。翌年、日本公演もしましたが、演奏技術はあまり変わっていなかった。とにかく忙しい中で、よくこれだけこなせたと感心する位です。４枚組は、１枚がモノラルですので、コアなマニア向けです。一般的には、このＣＤで充分楽しめます。
