アルカンがどういう人、どういう曲を作っているのか知りたければこのCDを聞けばいい。
大ソナタは、ソナタ形式をはるかに逸脱しているが、逆にその曲の構成がアルカンらしい。
ソナチネは、ソナチネという簡単なイメージとはかけはなれて難しい曲だが、アルカンを初めて聞く人にとってみれば、聞きやすい曲かもしれない。
そして、このCDのラストを飾るイソップの饗宴は、25回変奏する変奏曲であるが、主題のおもしろさ、そしてその展開にはアルカンらしさがよく出ており、技巧も曲想もアルカンのやりたい放題！

この演奏を聞けば、アルカンもオーソドックスなロマン派である事がわかると思う。この曲の録音は他にも幾つかあるけれども、アムラン盤さえ持っていれば基本的には十分であると思う。このような曲を弾ききる魅力は勿論、アルカンの大きな魅力の一つである、少しばかりメランコリックな旋律をうたわせる事においても素晴らしい。アムランは自然な、爽やかな演奏をするが、それがアルカンには特にハマっているように思う。彼のディスクの中でも特にオススメである。

グランドソナタの最初の楽章（２０代）をお聞きあれ！アムランという人のスゴさが体験できるはず。この悪魔的大作（怪作？）を何の苦もなく弾ききってる！まさに脱帽・いや絶望的名演です！！。
