前作「Ah Via Musicom」に続く傑作。
さらに洗練され、EJの世界が堪能できる。
私はこのアルバムを何度も聴きながら来日公演に行った。あの感動と興奮。

一曲一曲が素晴らしく、飽きさせない。
ただの早弾きギタリストではない、奥の深い本当に素晴らしい作品である。

ある意味、万人にオススメできるギター弾きの音楽だ。

どの曲もギターという楽器の表現方法を極限まで追求し、Eric Johnson最高傑作「Ah Via Musicom」
よりもさらに雄大なアルバムになっています。

キャッチーなメインテーマから始まる「s.r.v.」は、Stevie Ray Vaughanのコード・ボイシングを
Eric的に解釈した曲です。1stソロは、Stevieの実兄Jimmie Vaughanによるプレイです。
「manhattan」は、メインテーマを通常のピック弾きとウェス・モンゴメリー風の親指弾きに使い分け
たり、彼独特のピアノ・テクニック、バウンス・テクニック等の奏法やボトルネック奏法といった彼の
ギター・テクニック知るにはおすすめの曲です。

エフェクターで使用する乾電池の銘柄、電磁波の影響を考慮してエフェクターの設置場所をこだわったり
と、今回も徹底的にギターのトーンにこだわっています。
このアルバムでは、メインにローズ・ウッド指板の'65年製ストラトキャスターを使用しているようで、
前作よりロック的になった太いトーンが特徴です。

メンバーは、Tommy Taylor(Dr.)、Bill Maddox(Dr.)、Kyle Brock(B.)、Roscoe Beck(B.)、
Steve Barber(Synthe.)、James Fenner(Per.)等が参加しています。

　エリックジョンソンは私にとって、最高のギタリストです。そして本当の意味でいうアーティストだと思います。中々作りこまれていますが、楽曲もサウンドも本当に彼の内面から湧き出てきたものを素直に表現しているという印象を受け、胸糞が悪くなるようないやらしさを微塵も感じさせません。収録時間も短くはないのですが、美しく、清涼感いっぱいで、穏やかな気持ちにさせてくれます。まさに芸術作品とでもいいましょうか。
　今回のアルバムでは、彼自身が演奏するピアノソロ曲も入っています。テクニック的にどうとかという話にはならないと思いますが、エリックならではのとても美しい曲です。
　彼のアルバムはどれもすばらしくて、甲乙つけがたいです。個人的にはインストの名曲「遥かなるドーヴァー」が収録された前作から受けたインパクトがあまりにも強く、この「ヴィーナスアイル」は２番手になりますが、アルバムとしての完成度、密度からいったら、この「ヴィーナスアイル」の方が上を行っているような気もします。
　まあ、彼のアルバムであれば、どれを買っても損はしないと思います。彼の音楽、ギターサウンドは間違いなく部屋の空気を一変させます。外は雨でジメジメしていても、部屋の中だけは抜けるような青空という雰囲気になります。　ジャンルを問わずに音楽に関心があると言う人には是非一度は体験してもらいたいです。ＡＯＲが好きな人も是非！。
