   ポール・マッカートニーが1989~1990年に行ったツアーは大きな話題を呼んだが、それには訳があった――この10年間で批評的にも商業的にも大きく信用を落としたポールには、証明すべきことが山ほどあったのだ。バック・バンドのメンバーにザ・プリテンダーズのロビー・マッキントッシュ、アヴェレイジ・ホワイト・バンドのヘイミッシュ・スチュアートを得て、ポールは自分が現代に通用するアーティストであることを毎晩の公演で繰り返し主張した。そして世界は思い知った――ポールは過去30年間で最高の曲をいくつか書いただけでなく、現在もそれらの曲からロックなノリを引き出すことができるのだと。

ポールが１０代の頃流行っていてコピーしたであろう曲のカバーと、
当時、彼がリリースしたアルバム（ビートルズの香りが強い）ものと、
彼のライブではお約束的な曲などで構成されている。
エディ・コクランやファッツ・ドミノなど彼の大先輩達の曲、
ビートルズ時代の曲、ウイングス時代の曲等など盛りだくさん。
リッケンバッカーがフューチャーされたりと、「彼の昔」を振り返っているみたい。
内容は文句のつけようがない！
曲目は当時のライブの順番で同じ曲順。
しかし、ポールが選んだ世界各地での公演から拾い集めている。
今は亡きリンダのタンバリンやコーラスも懐かしい。
買っても損は決してしないと思う。
ここで収められているGET BACKは私が東京ドームで聴いたものなので余計にうれしい^^

ライブ盤としての出来を冷静に判断するなら、ウイングスオーバーアメリカ（USAライブ）のほうが断然いいとおもう。しかし、この『トリッピング〜』には歴史的意義がある。ヒストリックリターン、である。全ポールファンが待望した世界ツアーのドキュメントなのだ。一曲めのフィギアオブエイトは何度きいても震えがくる。ちなみにポールと組んだドラマーではこの時のクリスウィットンが一番好き。

ウイングス解散後ポールはほとんどオーディエンスの前に出ることはありませんでした。しかし周囲の説得もあり、再びツアーに出ることを決意しました。一部日本のマスコミはビートルズナンバーを多くやることに対し、ポールは過去の遺産を食い潰していると酷評しました。こいつらなーんにもわかってないね。ポールの音楽活動の集大成のコンサートなのだから、ビートルズ、ウイングス、ソロ時代すべての曲をやるのは当然のことなのです。もちろんビートルズの曲をプレイするのは、ポールのなかで何かがふっきれたということもあるのでしょうが。あと、ポールのライヴアルバムって極悪編集のためライヴの魅力が半減してしまうものばかりなのですが、このアルバムは特にそういうことは感じませんでした。ただしリハーサルテイクを途中に入れることはやめて欲しかった。とは言うものの、ヘイジュードをはじめとする初めてコンサートで演奏される数々のビートルズナンバーには感激させられました。やっぱりビートルズはポールだったのか?
