Decade is a greatest hits album containing singles recorded between 1981 and 1989 ranging from "Planet Earth" to "Notorious." This CD provides any Durannie a chance to reflect on the transgression the group had made from the stark pop of "Girls on Film" to the New Romantic chariot "Save a Prayer" and finally to the dismal Brit funk embarrassment "All She Wants Is." The album could have been stronger if commercial hits such as "Notorious" were replaced with better songs like "New Moon on Monday." Nevertheless, the purpose of this collection was to display representative songs from each album created before 1989, and in this it succeeds. --Beth Bessmer

日本のＴＭnetworkに多大な影響を与えたバンド。メンバー自身もあらゆるメディアで「Hungry Like the Wolf」に衝撃を受けたと語っている。ダンスミュージックとロックの融合に見事成功した功績は大きい。アイドル視されがちだが、サウンドは本物。1曲目のプロモーションビデオも最後にメンバーが飛び降りるという斬新なものであった。Ｋ-1戦士ミルコクロコップの登場曲でおなじみの９曲目。ＭＴＶを活用した戦略で大成功を収めた典型的なバンド。とにかく８０年代は彼らなしでは語れないし、このアルバムはそんな彼らを理解するにはうってつけのベスト盤。

８０年代のデュラン・デュランのヒット曲を聞くにはもってこいのベスト盤。デビュー曲の「プラネット・アース」からシングル第３弾「グラビアの美少女」第５弾「ハングリー・ライク・ザ・ウルフ」第６弾「セイヴ・アプレイヤー」第７弾「リオ」第８弾「プリーズ・テル・ミー・ナウ」第９弾「ユニオン・オブ・ザ・スネイク」そして全米ＮＯ．１「ザ・リフレックス」さらにシングル１２弾「ワイルド・ボーイズ」さらに「００７/美しき獲物たち」等など。ヒット曲だけのアルバム。初めて買う人にはお薦め。

聴けば聴くほど「あぁ、デュランデュランって実力派バンドだったんだなぁ・・・」と感じます。ルックスが良過ぎるのも善し悪しで、もっともっと高く評価されるべきグループ。このアルバムは彼らのデビューから黄金期を彩った数々のヒット曲で構成されているので、本当に嬉しい１枚です♪　

さてかつてデュランデュランで青春を過ごした世代は、今現在子育て真っ最中なんて人達も多いことでしょう。かくゆう私もその一人ですが・・・(^-^)。そこで一つ提案があるのですが・・・（気質のデュランファンの方、怒らないでね^^;）サイモン・ル・ボンのあまり抑揚のない歌唱法、クセの少ないブリティッシュイングリッシュをぜひともお子様の英語教育に利用してみてはいかがでしょう？私は５歳の娘の幼稚園の送り迎えの車の中でよく聴かせているのですが、すっかり覚えて「セイブ・ア・プレイヤー」や「リオ」あたり、上手に歌うんですよ♪メロディーラインも耳に残りやすい曲が多いからでしょうか、本当によく覚えます。ぜひ試してみて下さい♪
