   メンバーチェンジで新しく加わったジェフ・ヤングのギタープレイが光る。セックス・ピストルズのカバー曲<3>を軽くこなしたかと思うと、<4>ではややスローテンポに始まってひねりを加え、後半はやはりヘヴィーなメロディラインで頭を振るハメになる。一筋縄ではいかない、確かに「インテレクチュアル」なサウンドだ。（富良仁 枝実）

私の人生を変えたアルバム。18歳の時このアルバムの冒頭２曲を聴いて、「これが今まで捜し求めていた音楽だ」と気づかせてくれた。過去２作品よりはスラッシュ色が薄れ、よりへヴィな音楽を目指した（この辺がコマーシャル？）メガデスの３rd。特に後半の３曲は圧巻。自殺をテーマにしたと思われる"In My Darkest Hour"、スピーディな"Liar"、そして当時問題になっていたPMRCに露骨に牙をむいた"Hook In Mouth"まで、曲、歌詞共にムステイン節が炸裂。メガデスの中で、もっともムステインらしさが表れたアルバムだと思う。

　正にスラッシュ！　切り刻まれそうな感覚を憶えるほどの危機感に満ち溢れたアルバムです。全編を通してスピード重視、スラッシュファンの方には結構熱くなれる作品に仕上がっております。
　でも、初心者の方にはどうかな？スピードを求める人はそれで良し。そうでもない方はMEGADETH後期のアルバムを聴いてみてから買われる方が良いと思います。
　なにはなくともスラッシュ四天王。その存在感を余す所なく曝け出した一枚であることは間違いありません。

このアルバム、Ｄ・ムステインがドラッグ欲しさに意図的にコマーシャルな内容にした、というのは有名な話です。
しかし、聞こえてくるサウンドはどう考えたって決して
コマーシャルなものじゃありません。
初期メガデスらしい、聞くものを突き放すような
攻撃的なサウンドが楽しめます。また、Ｄ・ムステインの

歌もどこか斜に構えたような歌い方で、皮肉たっぷり。
（特に8）ベスト盤でしか初期メガデスを知らない方にも
このアルバムは必携です。
