Tutored at a young age by no less than guitar whiz Les Paul and blues legend T-Bone Walker, Steve Miller's life seemed destined to be dominated by music. Still, Miller's evolution from 1960s white-boy Chicago blues journeyman to '70s Top 40 hit machine was meteoric. Building on the success of his mainstream breakthrough The Joker, Miller's mastery of the indelibly catchy pop song yielded not only the radio-staple title track (since successfully revived by Seal), but an almost embarrassing wealth of other deceptively simple, hook-laden songs (including the standout "Wild Mountain Honey" as well as the hit singles "Take the Money and Run" and "Rock'n Me") to make Eagle play more like a greatest hits album than a standard collection of songs. それまでは、日本では知る人ぞ知るという人物だったのですが、このアルバムによって、もう「大物」になっちゃいました。もともと実力のある人で、ほとんどのレコードを衝動買いした私にすれば、まあちょっとヒットチャートで名前を売ってみようかな？てな感じの「洒落」た作品です。もともとブルースバンドっぽい売りですが、ここではもうスペースサウンド万華鏡的境地です。心地よいうねりがもう｢最高」。まあ固いことを考えず、この作品の質の高さを堪能下さい。本気になったらコンなもんやという1976年のメガ・ヒットです。

次作の「ブック・オブ・ドリーム」と対をなす、ＳＭＢの代表作。
前作「ジョーカー」が大ヒットしたにもかかわらず、訴訟に巻き込まれてブランクを余儀なくされ、満を持して発表した作品であり、シンセサイザーを全面的に導入、よりポップ色を強めて爆発的ヒットになった。

ヒットした「テイク・ザ・マネー・アンド・ラン」「ロックン・ミー」やシンセ全開のタイトル曲も良いが、本作のフェイヴァリット・ソングは「セレナーデ」。哀愁を帯びた曲調・ヴォーカルが泣かせる。
ロックが好きなら聴いて損はない一枚。

７６年発表の９作目。のっけから飛び出すスペーシーなシンセサイザー・サウンドにびっくりして、「間違えたか？」と思ったものの、その後に出て来るギター・サウンドで一安心・・・となるのは往年のファンであって現在ではスティーヴ・ミラー・バンドの代表作であり、「スペース・カウボーイ」のイメージとも重なる大傑作アルバムである。曲調は前作の「ジョーカー」から思いっきり変化したという感じではないが、一皮剥けたという感じはある。曲調もカントリー、Ｒ＆Ｂ、ロック・・・etc と今までの集大成的な内容であり、それをかなり分かりやすくポップに料理した感じで、大ヒットしたことがうなずける作品である。今後のスティーヴ・ミラー・バンドの方向性を決定したアルバムとしても重要だと思う。最初の一枚として有効だが、若干印象が軽いのでこのアルバムがスティーヴ・ミラーの全てだと思うのはちょっと違うかもしれない。フリーのオール・ライト・ナウっぽいイントロを聞かせる大ヒットの８．は代表作の一つで、スティーヴ独特のこぶしの利いたヴォーカルを満喫できる。
