Not to be confused with the dire Sometime in New York City, this live document was recorded at Madison Square Garden on August 30, 1972--Lennon's last full-length concert performance--but remained in the can until 1986. There's nothing definitive here (with and without the Beatles, Lennon did his best work in the studio), but it's still a real treat to hear passionate live renditions of underappreciated solo numbers such as "Woman Is the Nigger of the World," "Well Well Well," and "It's So Hard," along with righteous run-throughs of "Instant Karma" and "Cold Turkey." John and Yoko's tag-team evisceration of "Hound Dog" is admittedly a little hard to take, and the backing band (Elephant's Memory) rarely catches fire, but the man himself is in top form. Kind of makes you sad that he didn't get out more often. --Dan Epstein

序盤ジョンの声が全然振るってません。
しかし、「Come Together」あたりから
本調子を出し、ラスト・ナンバー「Hound Dog」では
完全に最高のロックン・ローラーになってます。
「Imagine」のエレピヴァージョンなど
なかなか面白いアルバムです。
ただ、前半の出遅れがちょっとマイナス！残念！

１９７２年８月３０日マジソンスクェアガーデンでの知的障害児のためのチャリティコンサート、すでに発売されてから１７年経ちます。当時は感動狂喜したものですが、リミックス、リマスターの高音質になれきった今の私の耳から聞けば、音のmixが悪くライブの臨場感も無く、下手な演奏にいまひとつ乗りきれていないジョンの苦悩ばかり目立ちます。最新の技術で音を磨けば負の要素は隠れてしまい素晴らしいライブ盤になることでしょう。リミックス版が待たれる１枚です。同時発売のビデオには洋子の全６曲の内sisters O sisters/born in a prisonの２曲が収録され、やや不完全ながらコンサート全体の雰囲気は体験出来ます。（CDとは別mix/昼と夜の部のベストトラックを編集）私は映像付きの方がジョンの心の動きが良く伝わるので、まだ在庫があれば映像版をおすすめします。ジョンレノン、アンソロジーにはits so hard/come together/woman is the nigger worldの別テイク収録ですのでマニアは要チエック。

結論、、、リミックス、リマスター早くして欲しい。このレンジの狭い貧弱な音ミッックスではジョンの調子が悪いと思われても仕方が無いです。

1972年のNY マジソン・スクエア・ガーデンで行われたライブです。
NYへ旅行に行く前に、気持ちを高めようとして聴いてみました。

観客の"Power to the people"という呼びかけで始まるライブですが、いまいち臨場感が感じらませんでした。

ただ、John Lennonファンとしては、今は亡きJohnの貴重なライブアルバムとして、一度聴いてみるのもいいではないでしょうか？
