The adage goes that a band has its entire career to create its first album, and the Wilson sisters, Ann and Nancy, never seemed able to top Dreamboat Annie, certainly one of rock's all-time strongest debuts. In fact, by the time they recorded this eponymous effort after switching labels, the industry had pretty much written them off as has-beens. Strangely, the 1985 release became one of the biggest hits of their career, scoring five hit songs. Of course, this was also where the band succumbed to outside tunesmiths and synthesizer-heavy MOR power ballads. Producer Ron Nevision even has Ann at times trying to emulate Madonna. バラクーダ、などヒットを飛ばしつつ、今ひとつ垢抜ける
ことができなかったＨＥＡＲＴを世界的なバンドにした
大傑作アルバムです。
とにかくアナログで言うＡ面が出色のでき。感涙必至の名曲
が並びます。1から5は全てシングルカットされ、８０年代
中期のＰＶ全盛時代、四六時中流され続け、大ヒットしまくり
ました。
筆者は当時大学１年生でしたが、本当によく聴きこみ、ＤＮＡ
に浸透してしまうくらいでした。
個人的には2、3、4はそれぞれ個性的な曲ですが、本当に
細胞にしみ込むほど影響を受けました。
このバンドの魅力はアンとナンシーのウィルソン姉妹のボー
カルとパフォーマンスですが、彼女たちを最高に引き立たせる
曲にも恵まれた作品と言えるでしょう。
プロデュースはロン・ネビソン。ＭＳＧやオジーの作品を台無し
にした、筆者のキライなプロデューサーなのですが、その彼が
唯一いい仕事をしたアルバムだとも評価しております。
何はなくても、このアルバムは、８０年代のアメリカンロックを
代表する作品でもあり、ぜひとも聴いていただき、たい、
と思います。

世界でも稀な美人姉妹が率いるロックバンド、
ハートの８枚目のアルバムだが、当時デビュー１０周年と言う事と、
レコード会社の移籍に伴い新規一転「HEART」
と名づけたこのアルバムで、見事、
大傑作アルバムとなってしまったのだ。
収録曲3の「ネバー」が全米No４、4の「ジーズ・ドリームス」
が全米No１獲得という勢いで、合計５曲の大ヒットシングル
を世に送り出したのだった。当然、アルバムもNo１に輝き、
名実ともにＴＯＰアーティストの仲間入りを果たした。
だが、私は、この美人姉妹、ウィルソン姉妹の音楽センスと
言うものにはつくづく脱帽である。
姉のアン・ウィルソンは私の推奨する女性Voの一人で、
何しろその圧倒的な歌いっぷりにはホレボレする。
音楽史における歴代の女性VoのTOP１０に入れても良いくらいだ。
妹のナンシーは時にアコースティックで、
時にエレキギターでコーラスを歌いながら
作曲もするマルチな女性だ。
あの、アンのコーラスを勤められるのはナンシー
しかいないというくらいくらい、
絶妙のコンビプレイを聞かせてくれる。
とにかく特にVoを目指している女性は心して聞くべし。

大ヒットアルバム「ハート」と
GREATEST　HITSにはバージョンが違うものが
いくつか収録されています！！

ボーカルだけでなく演奏そのものも全く違うのです。
NEVERではオリジナルアルバムでは控えめなボーカルに対して
GREATEST　HITSではボーカルが力強く、
しかもギターがかなり前面にきています。
それからNOTHIN　AT　ALLにおいても
ボーカルがオリジナルでは控えめな感じで
GREATEST　HITSでは力強く感じます。
２曲とも印象から想像すると歌いこんでいない初期のバージョンが
オリジナルのアルバムに収録されている感じがします。
ベストにはボーカルでアドリブが多く、
かなり歌いこんだあとに収録されたバージョン
なんだと思います。
