俺が中学生の頃、レコード（新星堂で、輸入盤で買ったんだよ、当時。安いからね。）が擦り切れる程、聴いたアルバムだ。表題曲は特に好きだ。かすれ、しかし優しさと憂いを含んだボーカルがカントリーライクなギターと場末のデキシー風ピアノの響きに絡むサマは、おっさんになった今、更に、無性に、掻き立てるものがある。
強くもないクセに夜な夜な傾けるグラスの肴になるは、ボブだったり、ライだったりするんだが、ボブは優しいかんねぇーっ、、、。８０年代初頭までが何となく、人も音楽も優しいんだよねっ。
しかし、ジャケツが格好良いよねぇ。「奔馬の如く」だったっけ、邦題は。

８０年発表。「STRANGER　IN　TOWN」と並ぶ傑作。アメリカンロックンロールと、美しいバラードの名曲揃い。「STRANGER　IN　TOWN」よりも、綺麗によくまとまった彼らの代表作。BOB　SEGERはルーツロック荒々しさに、繊細なメロディーセンスを併せ持ち、同期のブルーススプリングスティーンを凌ぐほどの実力者。８０年代の音は、個人的にあまり好みではありませんが、このＢｏｂ Ｓｅｇｅｒは別格。やはりそれは、キャッチーでポップ、そしてサザンロックの精神を失わない、数少ない本物のロックンローラーだから。

一曲目のホリゾンタルロックがかなり地味目な曲なので、あんまり・・・という印象がはじめにあったのを覚えています。ソリッドな曲の狭間にアコ目の曲が挟まるので、そちらにウェイトをおいて聞き始めたほうがいいかも？ただし、Againtst The Wind はやっぱり名曲です。この声が好きになれれば、ずっとつきあえる人だと思うのでが・・・。日本ではあまりにマイナーなので少しでも多くの人に聞いてほしいアルバムです。
